iPhone question...

If we already have Verizon and are eligible to get the iPhone at a 'discounted price', do you have to go into a Verizon store and buy it?  Or can you just go into like the Apple store or Best Buy and get it and have them put it on your existing account? or is their price just for new service?

DH has an upgrade so he can get it through Verizon for $199 and they said he could then give the phone to me and 'waste' his upgrade (since I'm not 'eligible' for an upgrade, it would cost me $600, which there is no way in hell I would pay that...) but can I just buy it on my own at the Apple store or Best Buy for $199 and take it to Verizon and have them put it on my # and not waste his upgrade?

It just really pisses me off that we've been with Verizon for like 10 years and I still have to pay full price for crap if its not my 'upgrade time".  Who gives a f&*&!@ as long as you sign up for another 2 year contract!  Why do they do that!  UGH.  :)

Re: iPhone question...

  • No, I'm pretty sure you can't go buy an iPhone somewhere else and take it to them.

  • That is how sprint is. We get new phones every 2 years b/c then we get the rebates and sales - but you have to sign a 2 year contract. I recently was gonna get my HTC phone at NFM because they had them cheap but they pull up your account to see if you are in the upgrade period. I was a month early.

So my guess is if you go to Best Buy or any place they can pull your account and it will sign you up for another contract. The only way to get around it is to buy a phone off ebay or something and just pop your memory card or whatever in the back. DH has done that but you take the chance of getting a POS that breaks soon - which is what happened to him.

  • Check NFM. :)

Granted this is Sprint.. but my EVO screen cracked after having it a little past a year, Sprint wanted $150 for another (w 2 yr agreement) and I went to NFM it was free after the instant rebates (also with a 2 yr agreement).  I would just call them, thats what I did rather than drive there to find out. :)

  • I called Best Buy and they said that as long as one of us is eligible for an upgrade, either of us can take it and we can buy it there and activate it for the upgrade price and I can use my BB GC's/CC/and rewards certificates to buy it as well, so that's a way better option then standing in line at the Verizon store for hours..tried that over lunch and was the 15th person in line so I left!

    Thanks ladies!

This is one of the many reasons we left Verizon. Every time we've had a question or needed anything we walk right in and are immediately helped at AT&T. It might be worth it to you look into AT&T. We're getting the exact same thing at AT&T for $20 less than it was at Verizon, plus no standing in line for hours and hours. I have the iPhone. We've been so happy with the switch.

not sure how the service is in lincoln with AT&T but with the iPhone here it's not that great. My sister had absolutely no reception at her apartment off 150th and Dodge. After she left for korea and came back, her and her DH went with Verizon and got the new iPhone 4g's, which by the way are AWESOME. I want one but am too cheap to pay for the frickin data plan.

  • I was going to rec the Apple store, cuz I love that place..but if you have GC's somewhere else, definately do that.  At any rate, how exciting!  My iPhone has changed my life, I LOVE IT!!!

Def would use the gf option...but I do know that last year when my husband and I needed new phones at Verizon they let us make an appt for later in the week so we could bypass the line.  Best choice we had was when someone was scheduled to start work so that way we were the first people they dealt with the minute they walked in the door....otherwise verizon lines suckkkkkkkk, if you are anywhere near the walmart in Bellevue (off 75th and cornhusker) that is the least busy verizon I have been too
