Switching birth control types question

So back in June I went to the doctor and she switched my birth control from Loestrin24 to TriSprintec.  My husband and I have been having sex without using any other form of birth control all month. I was just wondering what is the possibility that I could get pregnant because of the switch from one pill to the other within the first month.  I hope this doesnt seem like a silly question..  :-/

Re: Switching birth control types question

  • Possible.

Use a condom until your other pill takes effect.
  • I don't have a statistic for you about if it is ineffective or not, I honestly don't know. I can tell you that during college I switched pills 2-3 different times before I got on Yaz which I've been on now for 4 years, and every time I switched it threw my cycle off a lot which I think is a common side effect. So if you're late or if you start getting sick, other signs of potential pregnancy I wouldn't worry too much about it as I was about a week late each time I switched. I don't know how common this is and if you end up being late a pregnancy test will help put your mind at ease. Good luck and hope this was of some help.

P.S. I was on Ortho Tri Cycline (Sp?) and Ortho Tri Lo and both made me throw up violently the first week of pills each time I would start a new pack. I ended up throwing up in my now FIL truck at about 7:00a one morning and he asked DH (BF at the time) if I was "knocked up." I experienced a few morning sickness type symptoms when switching.

  • If you start your new pills right away (instead of a new pack of your current pill) and there was no interruption in usage, you should be fine. You period may change a bit for a month or two.

  • It is possible. I'm only familiar with the one you were one, not the one you are taking.
  • TriSprintec is just a generic, I think you will be fine =)

But use a condom if you are worried.

  • It's always best to use a condom. It's the first month birth control all over again.
