I just wanted to get this out. It seems like all DH does lately is sleep and complain that he's tired. I used to get up for work between 4-5am, so I would go to sleep really early (around 8:30-9 most nights). DH would usually come to bed around the time I did and just stay up and watch tv for a while until he was ready to go to sleep. He gets up for work around 6:15 and works 9-10 hour days.
Well I got a new job and a lot of mornings I don't have to get up between 6-7, so I have been staying up a lot later. But DH seems to have NOOO energy lately. Last week we went out to dinner with my co-workers and at 8:00 he was complaining about how exhausted he was and he wanted to go home and go to bed (I wanted to go visit my parents who were camping about 15 minutes away). Then today we went to dinner and then at 7:30 he was saying he was tired and he went to bed!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mean he is going to be getting 11 hours of sleep tonight, and it's not like he's backed up on sleep or sick or anything. I'm starting to wonder if he's depressed.
I got really frustrated and snapped at him today cause he said he'd go on a walk with me and then went to sleep instead, I just don't understand how he can constantly be so tired when he gets a minimum of 8-9 hours of sleep a night.
I know his job has been super stressful lately, and with the baby coming I think he is just feeling overwhelmed. Also I am now working only part time so he is going to have the bulk of the financial burden and carry health insurance, and it's just a lot of adjustments.
Any ideas of what I could do to get him more energy?
Thanks for listening.
Re: Concerned about DH
Does he have allergies?? I don't have the "usual" symptoms (sneezing/watery eyes/etc)... I just get super tired from having my sinuses completely blocked. And allergies in the midwest this year are AWFUL (my mom & brother haven't had them in years, and this year my they are both miserable; I was completely miserable most of Saturday- in Westpark!). Maybe see if he'll go get a physical & get allergy tests done?
Is he taking any sort of vitamins? Or maybe his diet isnt the best!!?!? have you tried asking him if everything is ok!??! I know my DH works 10hr days too and he's exhausted from being in attics all day doing HVAC but he doesnt seem to sleep all the time.
Being your pregnant you would think you're the one that would be more tired...
Ellen that is a good point, I think he does have allergies because he coughs and sneezes a lot. I will mention it to him and see if he might go get tested.
And Cari yes you would think I would be more tired!!! I got back a ton of energy after 1st trimester it's great. And I know today he didn't have anything for breakfast or lunch and then we went to Penn Station for dinner so that might be why he is sluggish.
I think I'm gonna sit down and talk to him about it tomorrow.
haha I got ZERO energy thru my entire pregnancy! you're lucky!!! Oh I never thought about allergies either!!! I know if i dont eat atleast 2 meals Im useless
I'd recommend he see his dr. It could be something easy like a Vitamin D deficiency or a thyroid issue. Both are completely manageable with some meds/vitamins.
This was happening with DH awhile back. Thankfully, the county he works for requires employees to get annual physicals or he probably would have never done anything about it.
Hope it's something simple!
I agree with both PPs.
My H and I went through a similar thing during the first 4-5 months of my pregnancy. It ended up being a combination of him being worried about my & baby's health (long story), work, my stress load (I was working 20 hours/week and taking 9 graduate credits, and a 4 week summer class) and his allergies acting up (which he swears he doesn't have. I think that my restless sleeping at night was also a problem, especially up until week 14 or 15 when I essentially slept for about 2 hours at a time (at best) and my tossing woke him up often, so he wasn't getting good rest.
It's gotten better now that the weather has mellowed out (i.e. his allergies are better), we've ruled out a lot of the major concerns about health issues (less for him to worry about) and my stress level has gone way down (I'm done with summer classes and only working 20/hrs a week).
If the previous suggestions don't work, maybe just ask him and see why he thinks he feels so tired. I totally sympathize, and have been there too....so PM if you need to talk about anything!
I would have said this. Stress or Depression too. Talk with him and the dr. Good luck! Hope everything is ok.
