BR: How early is too early?

After going into labor at 34 weeks with James and having nothing washed or ready for him I am kind of in panic mode.  We are 32 weeks right now.  My drs have no doubt that I am going to go full term this time.  I physically agree with them.  But my mind is screaming at me to get everything ready out of fear.  We're working on the hospital bag now (so DH doesn't have to wear my socks this time :)  But my main questions is about clothes/blankets/sheets.  Can I go ahead and wash them so they are ready in the next 2 weeks and they'll be fine for when she gets here or will I need to rewash everything?  Thanks!

Re: BR: How early is too early?

  • I wanted EVERYTHING done, so I had the bed ready and then put one of our king sheets over it to protect from dust, etc.

  • I did all the clothing that didn't have tags early and put it away in the closet/dresser. The bedding I waited until a couple weeks ago on just because I knew with the way my brain works that if I washed it too far out then I would have to wash it again as I'd be paranoid about dust even though I keep a clean house.  Two weeks ago I did all the boppy, swing, carseat, and bouncer covers and put them in place.

  • I went at 34 weeks with DS1, so at 33 weeks, we had everything ready, just in case.  We had the carseat situation figured out.  We had the pack n play (still folded up) in our room, with clean sheets for it folded on my nightstand.  I had the newborn clothes washed and put away.  I had the larger sized clothing boxes in the closet ready to go.  I had a few boxes of disposable diapers purchased, and the cloth diapers re-washed and prepped in the bins.  Then I closed the nursery door.

Didn't need it for another excruciating 5 weeks.

I say get it all done now while you have time and energy.  Work on it slowly, since you'll have time!  It'll be easier to enjoy, and you won't be sitting on teh couch, fretting that it's not done...  :)

  • I'd wash everything if I were you. I like being prepared! I'm not sure what week it was that we washed everything, but I wasn't too worried. Clothes were in a dresser so they weren't going to get dusty. We have a bassinet and crib so the crib was all washed with its decorative items. We didn't even get th bassinet until 3 weeks before so it was probably about a week and a half before that sheet was washed.
  • I think I had everything ready by 35 weeks-but that's because one of the OB's scared me that I would probably go early.

I literally had everything washed, packed, prepped; which was good but then the last few weeks I was bored because I had nothing to do! Time was going too slow ;-)

  • I had Reese at 34 weeks. I had nothing done! Nothing! So this time, I was over prepared! My mom helped me get all of her clothes, towels, etc washed at 30ish weeks. I'm glad we did it then because I ended up on bedrest at 32 weeks. The weekend before my induction, we washed the sheets for the pack n play, blankets and some odds and ends stuff. Baby girl is still in our room so her crib isn't made yet!
