Couple of garage sale questions

I know this was asked recently but I didn't mark the post and can't find it quickly.  Tomorrow my mom is coming so I can organize and price my stuff for a garage sale next weekend.  What are recommended prices for baby/toddler clothes?  Do you mark differently based on brand (say Gap vs. Carter's)?

I also plan to have it just on Saturday.  G has a dentist appt Friday morning so I can't do it then.  I could open up in the afternoon or be really different and do Thursday a.m. and then Saturday.  Will I get enough business to substantially reduce my stockpile of kids clothes if I just have it on Saturday?  I have only done one other garage sale and that was before I had any baby stuff to unload so one day was enough. I haven't counted the bins, but maybe around 6?  My kids haven't yet had very large 'wardrobes'.   I almost fear if I had it two days there wouldn't be much left or significantly picked over.

Re: Couple of garage sale questions

  • I'll be honest...I sold ZERO items of baby clothing at my garage sale and only 1 person looked. I only held it on Saturday, and only advertised on Craigslist. To be fair, I think it was also the same day as a community wide sale in Waukee (I think), so that might have been part of the reason. I also priced stuff to sell, so 25 or 50 cents on onesies, $1-2 on outfits or dresses. I also just saw a listing for a garage sale that was going on Friday from 4-8, so I don't think having it in the afternoon would hurt as long as you didn't mind putting the time in.

  • I generally don't pay more than a $1 - if you really want to move stuff I'd go more like MrsT said (.25 - .50).  I personally do consider paying more for name brand stuff - only because I think it washes/wears better than other brands.  Now that I work - I like Saturday only sales because I feel like they wont be as picked over than the ones that started on Thurs/Fri.

If you're selling any 2T boys (Fall/Winter) let me know!!

  • I did pretty well at my Saturday only garage sale last weekend getting rid of some of my baby clothes. I only advertised on Craigslist and I didn't get the ad on there til late Friday. I think one day would be enough. I also priced my stuff to sell with separates 25 to 50cents and full outfits around $1.
