We're planning on CD-ing once LO gets big enough to fit into OS diapers, we'll use disposables while newborn. I just had a couple questions:
Any other local shops besides Little Padded Seats to buy CDs?
Are their prices pretty decent or a bit overpriced?
Any other tips you can offer for a local DSM CD mom?
?

Re: Who here CDs?
1. There's Wallypop who makes diapers.
2. overpriced IMO - I can get them cheaper online
3. try lots of different kinds to find a good fit.
Do you have mrstice on FB? She doesn't post on here as often so if you are friends with her, you might want to ask her. She gave an amazing, information-filled presentation on CD and baby-wearing. All sorts of info on types of diapers! She is part of a local group too; let me see if I can at least find that.
Des Moines Cloth Diapering & Babywearing groups meet Tuesday, July 5th! 10-11am at the Village Learning Centre - upstairs at Willowsong, 733 19th Street. It's a great place to check out cloth diapers and try on babycarriers, get any questions answered, or just to socialize!

1. storkwearhouse.com and Simply For Giggles carries some stuff, I think.
2. a bit overpriced, but it is nice to get stuff right away, and touch stuff before buying. I compare shop, to see if shipping+product is cheaper, and if it's nearly the same, I go with LPS to support them. The owners are also very nice, and very knowledgeable.
3. Be brave, and have fun! There are a few of us on here, so ask questions if you have them! I've got 2 in CD's right now. We use all pockets, almost all one size, either Rumparooz or ones my mom made for us.
Its nice to have a b&m store to go and see and touch things, but you can typically find stuff much cheaper online. Lots of online stores offer package deals and many offer free diapers with purchases over x amount of dollars. Plus, if you can hold out until black friday, there are usally a lot of good sales.
You can also buy used. I'm guessing 95% of my stash is used. look at hyenacart.com under spots corner. I buy a lot from there and can often find nip stuff for less than retail.
As far as the newborn stage, I would buy some prefolds and covers, instead of sposies. Prefolds are actually very easy to use and you can use them later to stuff pockets (if you go that route!).
The cd board on the bump has a faq at the top of the board that is a good source of info, too. Plus, all of the ladies there are super friendly and helpful.
I could talk about cds all day (I love trying new stuff and have tried just about every type!), so if you have any other questions, feel free to page me
I think LPS is over priced. I bought two inserts and a nb Happy Heiny's dipe and my total was over $40. I'm all for buying local if you can afford it....I personally can't.
I have an awesome stash of dipes that I bought from Spots Corner, DiaperSwappers.com, clothdiapernation.com and some from thebump cloth diaper board (sweetpea
).
I would recommend getting started. It takes a while to build your stash and it's fun!!
Check out lots of online diaper stores and compare prices.
