I can't take this anymore!!

I'm on my second round of prednisone (oral steroid) since the end of April, and I'm about to go nuts!

I have poison ivy AGAIN, and this time it's really really bad. The poison ivy itself wasnt as bad, as much as the reaction to the medication.

I seriously go psychotic at night. I call it roid rage.

Also, my entire body itches. seriously itches. I'm bleeding and I have bruises on my legs because I've been scratching so badly, and it's not even where I had the poison Ivy.

I'm waiting for a call back from the doctor, because my meds are done tomorrow, and I still have poison bumps.

I'm seriously going crazy, and i amost started crying on the phone with the nurse before because I just can't keep itching all day.

thanks for listening. ugh.

:( I'm so sorry. Hopefully the doctor can prescribe something more effective with less side effects and you can recover very quickly. I think, in your situation, I would start drinking - so here! Drinks Of course I may drink a lot more than the average person...;)

  • Oh no! I'm so sorry!!!! I would also be demanding some other treatment from the doctor. And maybe asking if there is some sort of preventative cream since you seem to keep finding more poison ivy. UGH. Hope you feel better soon!!

  • Thanks girls. I just got home from the doctors. Turns out, I have something called "prickly heat" which means that my sweat glands are blocked...probably from the mud at the warrior dash.

Pretty much, I can't put anything on it, because it will only block it more, so I have to deal with it until it unblocks. They did write me a RX for some stuff if I really can't handle it, but I think it's more of an anxiety thing..but that brings me to the next thing..

My insurance was denied. Since I resigned from my current position, they have terminated my insurance. It makes sense, but when I left my last job, they covered me until August.

Since teachers get paid on an aug-aug schedule, our premiums that are taken out cover that timeline. I'm waiting for a call back from the director of benefits now.

I guess my main thought is...I got paid my final check in June (just like EVERYONE in the district). This amount did not change whether I was coming back to the district or not. Why is it that I would have had those two more months of insurance before my next check at the end of august, and now I'm cut short two months?

am i crazy? does that make sense?

Yes, it does make sense - but they probably listed you as no longer being an employee after your last check since they knew you weren't coming back. When do your benefits for the new job start? Does your H have benefits? I hope the director of benefits has a good answer for you.

That would frustrate me to no end. :( I'm so sorry.

ughhh I screwed up...turns out I was supposed to put my date of resignation in August, not June when school ended. damn it.

DH can get insurance, but we need my insurance because its better. My new insurance will start sept. 1.

    Ughhhh COBRA is sooo expensive.

talk about anxiety attack right now.

  • Oh man, I am so sorry Melko. I have no advice other than what the girls have already said. :(

I had poison ivy 2 summers ago all over my torso, face, arms and legs. I was on steroids but a friend recommended Tecnu to me, and it did relieve a lot of discomfort. I got it at Walgreens but I think it's available at most drugstores.

I hope you feel better soon!

  • Insurance is confusing :(  I think my mom used to get "prickly heat" when we were kids.  I remember her talking about it, but I don't think she did much for it aside from staying in the AC in shorts and tanktops and plenty of water.  Water always helps everything it seems.  Hopefully the new prescription will work.

  • Can you sweat it out (the pores)? Like, hot sauna kind of thing? I'm sorry Melko, that's not fun at all. And the insurance crap adds insult to injury. COBRA is expensive. I would see what private insurance, short term, would cost. I was on a $100/mo plan and the agent said most people used it for when they were between jobs.

thank you for this suggestion! we'll look into it!

Thanks girls. They said that i should wash with a loofa to make sure that nothing else is blocking it, and stay in the cool air. I'm still exercising, so I'm hoping that with now using the loofa and not putting any more creams on it, the sweat will force its way out.

What sucks the most is that it's an itch similar to dry skin itch, which is when I would naturally lather myself in lotion haha.

    thanks again!

  • oh Melko - that sucks so bad! I can't imagine what that feels like :(

I'm not sure how old you are, but they just passed a law saying that you can stay on your parents insurance until you are 26, doesn't matter if you're married, working, unemployed, etc. If you're eligible it would definitely be worth it to hop back on with mom and dad until your new job starts.

COBRA is redonkulous - CCH's short term insurance idea is brilliant. I hope you find a solution soon. I'm so sorry this is happening :(
