The best Pill?

What BCP do you recommend for someone who hates having hormones in her body? I haven't taken The Pill in probably 10 years, but need a different BC method now due to insurance only paying for the pill.

Re: The best Pill?

  • Ortho tri cyclen lo, its low dose & barely any side effect.
  • I liked Aviane generic form is Luttera.  (I think I spelled it right).  It's a low dose and didn't have side effects.  It's not a very well known one.  Due to vascular headaches if im going to be on BCP I have to take a low dose.  I had horrible side effects with 2 more popular ones so my nurse practitioner found this one for me.

  • Maybe see if they will pay for Nuvaring? I know there are horror stories out there about it but it has been wonderful for me. My doctor said it releases and maintains a lower level of hormones in your bloodstream than any of the pills. I switched to it from Ortho Tricyclin Lo because every time I started a new pack of pills the hormones made me horribly nauseous and I'd be up all night waiting to puke. (I also had similar problems with other pills I had tried too.)
  • I don't think there is a "best pill" - everyone is different and will respond to every type differently. What works for someone else will not necessarily work for you.

    THIS!!!

no chance of the parguard IUD?  no hormones in that.  Also what about natural family planning if you really don't want hormones?  Just a thought

  • I can agree with ortho as the best low dose and insurance covers it!
