Ruby naps great during the day. She'll take a 2 - 2.5 hour morning nap in her crib no problem. She takes another shorter nap in the afternoon and sometimes one around dinner time.
Our problem is nighttime. She goes down easily at 8pm. We do a bedtime routine with her, and put her down. She sleeps great...for one hour. It never fails. No matter what time we put her down, one hour later, she's up. We can rock her and put her back down and she pops back up. She WILL NOT stay asleep in her crib after the 9pm-ish mark for more than a few minutes. It's weird.
I've had to be up early every morning as I've been watching another child and I don't do well with lack of sleep. Therefore, Ruby just comes to bed with us. We co-slept with Andersen and swore never again, but here she is 5 months and in our bed.
I've tried getting my scent on her blanket, putting a soother in her crib, putting a night light in her room, picking her up and putting her back down, not picking her up and just patting her, a white noise machine, a lovey.
We were going to try CIO a couple weeks ago, but I gave up quickly. *I* just wasn't ready to commit.
Any thoughts on why she's doing this? Suggestions?
Re: What the hell?
Jocelyn has the KVNO UNO classical station constantly playing in her room. In fact, I NEVER shut it off. Would Ruby be able to hear it if you tried that? Otherwise, I think we did CIO around the age she is now. Sucked but I swore that I would not have another co-sleeper. Now she wakes up like clockwork around 6ish so then she comes in my bed only for about 2 hours before we get up. Oh well, she'll have to get up around that time anyway once I start my new job.
Sorry i'm not much help. What is your bedtime routine? Can you maybe keep her up a little longer or have her skip the last evening nap so she's really tired?
