QOTD

What is your worst haircut story?

When I was in 1st grade I decided to cut my own hair. I cut is SO bad that they had to cut if all OFF, so I had a total boy haircut for my 1st grade pictures.

Re: QOTD

  • Wow Jess. I did the exact same thing. When I was 5, I found a pair of scissors in the living room and cut like 8 inches off my hair. It had been down to my butt and I cut it above my shoulders. I was supposed to be a flower girl in my aunt's wedding like 2 days later. My mom was horrified when she saw what I did and had to take me to the Hair Cuttery to try to fix it. I ended up with a bowl cut and looked like a boy in a dress for the wedding. I still cringe when I look back at the pics.

  • I have gone to the same girl since I started college 10 years ago.  She was on maternity leave and I realllllllly needed a haircut.  I made an appointment with this well-known stylist/owner of a salon and spa.  It was horrible.  My hair was long and she cut really short layers in it.  Seriously the worst hair cut I have ever had.  When I went back to my hairdresser, she looked at my head for 10 minutes to figure out how she could fix it.

  • Not a haircut but in sixth grade me and mom (and our long time hairdresser, apparently) thought it would be a good idea for me to perm my naturally curly hair and cut it off real short. Well, it wasn't. I looked like I had an afro and it was 1990, not 1970. And this was RIGHT before I started middle school. Then, as it grew out, it looked like a bell for all the rest of middle school. It was a short, bushy, mess until 9th grade.

*Dani, that sounds so sad - your poor aunt ;)

  • Okay I had long my entire childhood because my grandmother refused to allow us to cut our hair which I believe led to my many chop sessions in college. DH disagrees and thinks that 75% of women that go to college get a 'tree hugger cut' as he calls them for some reason.

I had a really great angle bob my sophomore year it was really cute then for some reason I decided that I could handle a cut like Ashley Judd, like super duper short and meant for hair with at least some type of body/wave to it. It was so horrible my grandpa use to call me a rooster.

It was slightly shorter than this (in the back)

  • In 6th grade I decided I wanted my hair really short because a lot of girls at school had short hair and it was spiky and cute.  Keep in mind this was the late 80s.  So I went to get my hair cut and had it cut about 1 inch long all over.  Total boy cut - they had to shave the back of my neck it was so short.  A year later it was long and in my bangs stood about 3 inches tall - aquanet and a curling iron were my friends.  I sometimes miss my big 80s hair.

  • Oh I do have a childhood cut story too though. My granmother spent 6 months or so growing out my super thick straight across the forehead bangs one year when I found some super cool sunglasses that had been my fathers. When I put them on my head they got caught in my hair so I cut them out so no one would find out then tucked the little pieces under my longer hair (it was in a ponytail). My grandmother had a fit when she took my hair out that night there were crazy short pieces sticking out everywhere.

I did that, except I was 12 and it was the day before I started middle school. Remember when having those two strands of hair on either side of your face, about to where your cheekbones are, was cool? Yeah, I tried to trim those...dry... and it kept coming out uneven so I kept cutting it shorter, shorter, shorter.. eventually I got mad and cut it all off. So I had this quarter sized spot, front and center, of peach fuzz hair.   ...That was awesome.

    My overly happy baby girl!

  • I think I was like 8 or 9 my mom took me to one of the cheap places (like supercuts) only the person I saw obviously didn't have experience cutting kids hair.  She kept getting mad that I didn't keep my head perfectly still and kept having to go back and forth cutting each side shorter and shorter because she couldn't get it even.  Yeah it ended up at my chin or just above it.  like 2 inches shorter than I wanted it.  I was just going in for a trim.
  • When I was in 8th grade, I had a blonde afro LOL.  I got a cut & perm, it was bad.

  • I had a pool growing up and would swim several times a day. My hair was a pretty light color and would turn green. I hated washing it after each swim so pretty much refused. By the end of the summer, it was usually green. It seemed to be a summer ritual to have to get the green cut out so I would have weird layers. My mom must have hated it. I've been pretty lax about washing my hair after I swim in our pool now and hope it doesn't turn green.

  • I am pretty boring and just had long hair growing up, and then cut it short a few years ago. Nothing terrible.

Now, I do have a dyeing story. I don't actually dye my hair permanently because I am a big chicken so I would do semi permanent but I decided to try highlights. I did them twice no problem, but the third time it left completely bleached out 3" sections all over. I had to call my hair lady and ended up fixing them so they blended in better but you could still see exactly where they were up until me getting my hair chopped off 2 years ago.

    I heart Ben!!
