People mad at the Casey Anthony Jury?

Why are more people not angry at the prosecution? The comments I see are all angry at the jury for the verdict they handed out based on the evidence presented by the prosecution. It was the prosecutions job to bring facts and evidence to support the charges they brought against her. They did not bring enough factual evidence to find guilt. Perhaps I have a different view as I have served on a jury so I have been in the seat listening to evidence and having to make a decision.

I am angry she didn't get convicted but I don't believe it was because of the jury.

  • just shows you are more intelligent than the rest :)

you understand how the system works. whether we like the outcome or not, it worked right. yes, the prosecution should have done a better job.

  • Some times I feel like I must be insane.

If you take the emotion of the fact this was a child away.

If this was some other case where a cause of death was not presented and someone was convicted the outcry would be how could this happen.

This is not that I think she is innocent.

  • i agree with you august. we all may be angry that she wasnt convicted, but the burden was on the prosecution to bring the facts to the table. The jury was only doing their job and they have to follow the law, unfortunately in this case.  Maybe if the prosecution had brought her up on a charge they could actually prove the outcome may have been different.  Its really sad

Did they give her time served? She has been in prison for 3.5 years.

  • yeah - time served plus good behavior - she'll likely be out in August.
  • That sucks! however I am glad that companies have rescinded offers to pay her for things.

It will be very interesting to see if the county is successful in suing her to repay them for the investigation. I think her conviction may give them an edge.

  • There may not have been enough evidence to convict her of Murder, but I feel like they should have at least gotten her on the aggrivated Child Abuse charge. The woman drove around in a car that smelled like a dead body for over a month. She definatly had Caylees body in the trunk of that car at some point. There was more than enough evidence to prove this. That ALONE is child abuse. Forget how she died, who killed her, blah blah blah...Even if she didn't do any of that, she drove around wth her daughters dead body in her car. As her primary caregiver, it was her duty to protect her daughter and seek the police's help immeditaly if something went wrong. She didn't do that.

  • I definitely blame the prosecutors for this one.  Also to some extent, tv shows like CSI, that seem to be leading juries to believe that all murder cases are going to be presented to them with a nice little package of forensic evidence wrapped up and topped with a bow.

Most cases are based on circumstantial evidence.  It's up to the prosecution to make a convincing case based on that evidence.  Unfortunately, these prosecutors seemed desperate to make a name for themselves by getting a 1st Degree Murder conviction, that they presented the evidence in the wrong way and failed to focus enough on making the lesser charges make sense to the jury.  I don't blame the jury for that.  I'm a little surprised that there wasn't at least one person on there who was a holdout and wanted to convict in spite of the lack of evidence.  But kudos to them for actually basing their decision on the case as presented to them, like they are supposed to.

Now the OJ jury, on the other hand, I'm still carrying a grudge against.

  • Oh, I'm pissed as hell at the prosecution.  I believe there are other forensic tests they could have done to try to establish cause of death and did not.  They did not have enough for Murder One, knew it and went ahead with it anyway.  IMO, if they had gone for manslaughter with the aggrivated child abuse and NOT murder, she may have been convicted with the circumstancial evidence.

And, "not guilty" does NOT mean innocent.  I still think she is guilty as hell and the worst mother possible.  The state just didn't get their act together enough to prove it.

I agree with you 100%.  I'm pissed the evidence sucked.  I'm pissed she got off.  The jury did right given the facts they had, but people's emotions get in the way and immediately go to blame the jury for the outcome.

  • THANK YOU, PEOPLE. Here in Amurrrrica, this is how our justice system works (or doesn't). It's a sin that poor little angel is gone and no one is paying for it. And it's because the prosecution did a piss poor job. There's no way in hell that they had enough to get her on murder 1, especially with the chance of death penalty. They should have pressed for other crimes.
