I know there are couple of us here with cabins or family in NW Wisconsin. We drove up on the back end of the wind storm and dodged trees on roads most of the 2nd half of the drive. Cabin and boats were all narrowly missed but all fine. There are cabins on our lake with trees on them or boats that were flipped over and/or sunk. All things considered, our damage is practically nothing in comparison to others near us.
Still no power when my parents left at 7 tonight though which sucks. They took everything out of the fridge and freezer to bring home. We were running it off of a neighbor's generator all weekend which is the only thing that saved us from going home!
Everyone else come through the storms OK?
Re: NW Wisconsin check in
We left Sat morning and drove to Nebagamon, WI (Just east of Superior). At the cabin, everything was OK, but there were tons of trees down enroute. We had to take a few back roads due to some unexpected road work (and us unwilling to take a normal detour) and were lucky enough that someone had already come through with a chainsaw to move stuff.
We were just outside Webb Lake at a friend's cabin. We were down on the beach & saw the strom rolling in.
Less than 10 minutes after we took this photo we grabbed what we could & scrambled inside before the wind & rain hit. No damage was done at the cabin we were staying at but neighbors all around lost huge trees. SO's family's cabin near Webster lost dozens of trees but most of them were in the woods. Some other friends we have in the Webster area lost close to 50 trees, had docks & boats overturned, garages/sheds smashed, totalled cars, etc...
We managed to stock up on ice before all the stores ran out & survived the weekend with 6 coolers. We made regular trips back & forth from lake to cabin with a bucket to flush the toilet. Fun, fun!
We are going back up to our friend's cabin outside of Webb Lake this evening & hoping the power is back on. We are bringing more candles, flashlights, etc... just in case & even have a biffy being delivered since there will be 30+ people staying there this weekend (tenting in the yard). I have heard some areas could still be without power until well into next week.
