Ok so last week our washing machine developed a leak. Water went all over the floor of the laundry room and I mopped it all up with towels. Well, we still haven't been able to figure out what the problem is, so our landlord came over yesterday while I was at work to take a look. In doing so, he moved a lot of stuff out of the laundry room to get a better look behind our machine and left it all out.
When I walked in the door yesterday, I noticed that something smelled really bad. With all the stuff moved out of the laundry room, I was quickly able to see that one of my Ugg boots that I store in there had gotten totally SOAKED in the leak last week and had green and black mold growing alllll over it - so much so that the mold had actually started growing UP the wall near the boots! EW! Anyway, I took them right out to the patio and sprayed them down with mold & mildew cleaner but I'm thinking this is beyond salvageable, right? I mean, what with all the sheepskin and wool inside the boot, etc? I almost tossed them right into the trash, but figured I'd try to see if I could save them first - I just don't really see how that's possible.

Re: Gross! Help please?
We rent a condo directly from the owner and have our own washer/dryer (well, it's not ours, it's the onwer's), so it wasn't a common area. I suppose I could still ask him, but he has already offered to cover our laundromat expenses, which i thought was nice.
To be honest, I've had these boots since 2004 and have pretty much disliked them since 2006 (lol) but I haven't replaced them yet because they are (were) still in really good shape. So thank you guys for giving me the validation I needed to throw them away and finally buy new winter boots this year, haha!
P.S. I almost died when I saw mold growing all over the wall. It was so nasty!
I agree with the others - junk em!
Eek. I hope you get it resolved soon (and properly). Mold can get pretty serious.

Thanks, me too! The repair person is coming tomorrow - fingers crossed they can fix it. The mold on the wall seems to have responded very well to the mold remover I sprayed on it last night. I can't see it at all anymore, but I will have to keep an eye on the area.
