QOTD

Thoughts on tattoos?  Trashy or not?  Does location matter?  Anybody got any?

Re: QOTD

  • Well I have 2. One is my tramp stamp that I got when I was 20? Rose and a butterfly, sure this is kinda a trashy place for one but how I look at it is if I don't want you to know I have one there you will never know. My second, is on my shoulder it is a breast cancer ribbion with angel wings for my mom.

I personally like tattoos that you can hide if you want. I see no plans in my future about getting any more but you never know. It seems all of my friends are into getting them right now so who knows if I will get bit by the bug again.

  • um...I used to think they were cool.  I almost got one.  I'm so glad I didn't.  I don't mind them on other people, but personally, when I get dressed up for something really nice - like a formal function, I like to show a lot of skin and I don't want anything to blemish it.

My used-to-be BFF had a full body suit.  It was awesome.  She got a TON of attention.  Sometimes it wasn't good.  I used to think she looked SO cool and tough an edgy.  Not that she's almost 40, it doesn't quite work for her the same way.

Do you know that they make semi-permanent ink now?  It lasts for a few years then naturally breaks down under the skin.  I think it's genius.

  • I have a small little teeny tiny tattoo that is very simple.  It is this size and says:

    IXIVX

    it is on my ankle.

i am simple and only like small simple tattoos.  i would not get another, except perhaps the same thing on my other ankle with the roman numeral date of my childs birth date.

on other people i think tattoos CAN be cool.  i think what it is and where it is sways my decision. on some people i see tattoos and they stand out and im like "why?!?!" and other people i meet who have 20+ tattoos and they just blend into who the person is to the point that i don't even notice them. i also don't care that much though, because it's not my body!

  • Don't currently have any tattoos and don't like a ton of them on other people, either.  I don't mind one or two of them, but when your whole arm is covered or something, it bothers me.

However, one time on the subway I noticed this girl's arm.  When I took a closer look she had flowers and vines tattooed all up and down, but in a creamy white ink only.  The effect made it look like her arm was lightly stenciled rather than an in-your-face tattoo.  I decided I could handle something like that.  I am considering getting a small tattoo in white ink just like that on my foot.  Just trying to figure out what exactly I'd want it to be.  I'd want it to be meaningful.

  • I don't have any, but that's b/c I have a thing with pain/needles.  :-)   Some of them can be awesome.  I think it really depends on the art and the skill of the person doing it.

I'm not a fan of women that have them all over that are visable.  On some guys, it can be sexy on their arms and stuff (not fully sleeved though).  Might be a double standard, but whatever.

I have a friend who has a lot of them, but most are covered.  She has one on the inside of her wrist which is beautiful and classy.  About 2 years ago, she got this HUGE flower thing that covers her entire shoulder, down her arm, part of her back and part of her collerbone.  Then UNDERNEATH, (as in like her armpit) she got basically a mirror image of it, but in black and white. I don't like it.  She is a stylist and is always lifting her arms, etc. and I just think it looks kinda trashy.  She's getting married in a couple weeks and has an expensive beautiful dress, but I just think that tattoo is going to make it look blah.

  • Full sleeves on men is hawtness...yummmo. On women no thank you.

I don't mind tattoos on people it's their own choice and more power too them. Toby has 4. They are all easily covered by pants and a t-shirt and that's how he wanted them, they also all mean something to him which I believe is important. I have one that I've been drooling over for a while and I want sooo bad but just have never gotten around to getting it done. Someday soon hopefully, it will be on my back.

  • I say have at it, as long as you don't get them in places that will inhibit you professionally.

I have one on the inside of my ankle from when I was 19? A perfect clover. And one on my back near my shoulder blade that says believe with a pink star over it. I need to get that star filled in.

this is how i feel too--my sister on the other hand is that girl that apparently ya'll don't like--she has full sleeves.  i don't like her tattoos, but they work for her.  and in her current field and for her current lifestyle they work just fine.  but i always wonder what will happen if she is 40 and decides she wants a white picket house life and a job in an office.

  • I don't have any hardfast rules for which tattoos I like or dislike.  I think it hugely depends on the person.  Some can pull it off, others just shouldn't have them.

I have one on my back over my right shoulder of a Mother Earth hugging the earth.  I drew it and I debated on it for 3 years before I got it.  I love it and don't regret it.  I also like that it's in an area that I can easily show it off or cover it up depending on the mood.  I would like to get another, but I don't know where to put it.  I don't want one on my arms or legs and feel like two on my back may be a bit haphazard and weird.  If I ever figure out where to put it, I'll probably get another.

  • i have 7 of them, all pretty small and husband has several and a half sleeve. looking to get a new one within the next 2 months
  • I don't have any but I've kinda always wanted one. I just can't figure out what I want on my body for the rest of my life or where. It would probably be something small and on my wrist that I can cover with my watch that I wear daily. I don't plan to get one in the near future. However, my bff has some and they all mean something to her which I think is super important.

  • I like ink, depending on what it is.  I have a kitten tattoo and have been wanting to get a stargazer lily with Rich's initials and our wedding date.

  • I would really like to hear a couple men comment on this. Toby said he doesn't care as long as they can be covered (no neck or face tats). But a guy friend of mine thinks that a womens body is beautiful alone and doesn't like piercings or tattoos.
  • I don't generally have a problem with them as long as the ink matches the personality.  If I saw someone in my (uptight, conservative) office with full sleeves I'd be all kinds of judgey.

K likes a little ink but frowns on anything too big (we have a friend with a GIANT butterfly across her chest - covers collarbone to cleavage and nearly shoulder to shoulder) or full sleeves.

We were discussing this recently and I mentioned that I would never get his name tattooed on me...I love him and plan on burying him, but you never know what the future holds...my kids, on the other hand, will be my kids no matter what happens or doesn't happen between me & K.

  • I think it all depends on the person AND the tattoo - I see far too many stupid tattoos (my friend actually covered one tattoo with another awful one of a cracked out looking pink bunny).

    I have 5 (I plan on 3 more):

A rose, calla lily, and hybrid with my daughter's name on my back between shoulderblades

Marilyn Monroe's signature and a kiss print on (my) right side of my lower back/bum (like a tramp stamp but pushed way over?)

A symbol I made (similar to the infinity symbol) with 2 cherry blossoms on my forearm (DH has a tree on his forearm with the same symboll as the trunk)

The Deathly Hallows symbol on the back of my neck

and on my left calf I have DH's name and around it in the shape of a heart "my best friend, my lover, my husband"

I carefully chose each one and I love them :)

  • I have 4. My first when I was 16 years old and it's a heart, pretty much on my but, like right where your pants rest. Stupid stupid, I was on spring break and had a fake ID. My 2nd one was when i was 18, it's a cross on my left shoulder blade, very girly and i get lolts of compliments on it. My 3rd is a very small heart on top on my left foot, very cute and I love it! The 4th is the roman numerals of the wedding date, on the inside of my left wrist. I love it and H loves it!

I have no plans right now to get another, but who knows, mine are all very small so maybe I will want another eventually. I only get non-color tattoos because they are easier to get lasered off, if need be.
