XP: Help with residue from baking soda/vinegar mix

Ok, I posted this on the cleaning board too but I know JenD, Erbur and a few others clean with baking soda/vinegar so I'm hoping someone might be able to help.

I finally got off my rear to clean today... big mistake because after an hour of swimming at the gym, I could only clean 1/2 of the grout in my kitchen. It was exhausting. And now I have a mess. :/

I used the baking soda/vinegar to clean the grout with a stiff grout brush. It worked great!  The results are pretty amazing. So here's the prob - now I have a pretty thick layer of baking soda film on that part of the floor that won't come off.  I've tried mopping with water, using a magic eraser, and even steam mopping and while it's better, it's still there.  I'm not sure what else to do.  Anyone have a recommendation on what may remove the film?  It's a bit powdery to the touch and the tiles don't shine anymore.  I don't know if using a harsh chemical would work to take it off or if I should just try mopping with soapy water. TIA!

And I seriously want to cry because cleaning grout suuuucccks!

  • I'm so glad you posted this because I just bought a gallon of vinegar and a some baking soda to clean the tiles with in my bathroom.  This is my first time doing it and I was going to ask today if I needed to add anything else to the mixture.

  • I loooooove baking soda and vinegar.  My sink always looks brand new when I use it.

Stupid question - did you try putting more vinegar on it to get it to come up?

  • Thanks also for posting this.  I seriously need to clean the grout on my bathroom floor.  It was white (now turned disgusting yellow) and probably not cleaned since 1953.  I have tried everything to no avail and it is still disgusting yellow.  How much of each do you mix together?

Not a stupid question - this is what I was going to suggest!

  • Ditto the suggestion to use straight vinegar to remove the baking soda film.  Next time, try cutting back the amount of baking soda you use.

Yeah, I think I used too much.  I'll try the vinegar and report back.

To the other ladies thinking of cleaning grout, hire a professional Stick out tongue  It's a lot of work.  I read online that oxygen bleach powder apparently works the best, but I was worried about the chemicals with the pets.  And baking soda/vinegar definitely works!
