Poll: Favorite beach

What's your favorite local beach? Either accessible by public transportation or a short drive.

Re: Poll: Favorite beach

  • Fire Island. Only been once but I loved it :)
  • I'm a beach hater. I hate sand in my cracks and crevices. I hate baking like a turkey.

Growing up, and still, my grandmother had a bungalow in the Rockaways, in Breezy Point on Jamaica Bay. I had to spend a lot of time in the sand. And because I always had beach access we never really went to any of the other local beaches.

I remember that my great aunt had a house in Long Beach and that we would go to the beach there occasionally and it was pretty nice, but that is like 25/30 years ago.

  • For local, I really love Jones Beach. In an hour (on LIRR and then bus transfer at the station - so easy!) you can be on the sand. It's huge, there are different fields with some quieter than others, a boardwalk, and good beach food.

  • Jones Beach...it's bigger than a lot of the others and I'm a sucker for the snack bar.

  • I like Jones Beach, and I also like Gateway Park in Staten Island. Quiet, clean..no crazy dramatic guidos that you find on the shore..good times. LOLOL

But with that, I also enjoy Lavalette (spelling?) on the Jersey shore.

Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker ...here is the deepest secret nobody knows (here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide) and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart I carry your heart(I carry it in my heart)
  • I love Point Pleasant Beach in NJ (I live in SI, so it's much closer than the beaches in bklyn, queens and LI). They have a really nice boardwalk and cute little rides for Sam. Plus the food is pretty good there too. =)

  • Definitely no a NY native here. I like Coney Island. The boardwalk, atmosphere, not all skinny people. I like busy beaches. I grew up in a tranquil place. I don't work during the summer, so I'm looking for activities not to relax when I get out of the house.

  • Long Beach!  Neptune Ave entrance, right at the start of the boardwalk :-)

You pay per person on Long Beach, which keeps the crowds smaller.  As opposed to Jones beach where you can pack 30 people in a minivan and pay the same price - if you go to the wrong gate at Jones, you'll feel like you just stepped into an MTV Spring Break show.  It can get crazy over there.  I like my beaches quiet, I want to hear the waves not your boombox!
