You're kidding me, right?!

Wow!  This turned out really long.  Kudos to those who make it through to the end.

It?s going to a very long seven months if today was any indication of how things are going to go.  Last pay period I had my first OB appointment.  I wrote down on my calendar that I worked from 11:30-5:30 without a lunch and made up the rest of the time during the week.  I came in today to find a little note from my boss stating she had me coming in after 11:30 on that day.  So, I went and asked her what time she had.  With a completely straight face she said 11:37.  All I could do was stare at her a little dumbfounded for a few seconds.  Then she asked if I worked through lunch.  Again, I was a little dumbfounded and took a couple seconds to spit out that I worked through lunch.  Then she points out that I was still a half hour short.  Another few seconds of shock from me and I tell her I worked until 5:30.  She got a little huffy, probably because she can?t prove or disprove I worked that late since she leaves well before 5:00 most days, but finally signed my time sheet.   Now, I?m technically paid hourly, but in reality I?m on salary - every two weeks I fill out a timesheet, but in the end it?s still 40 hours a week.

If I take time off for an appointment I have to make up that time within the same week and the same pay period meaning if I take time off on Monday and the pay period ends on Wednesday I have Monday-Wednesday to make up the time or use my sick time.  Can?t really use any sick time because I only have two days left for the rest of the year (a whole other long story/vent), so I have to work off any time I take.  All this is because my boss is a total control-freak who gets off on exerting that control over her ?underlings?.  The other managers in the office (one of them being our main HR lady) are pretty much of the thought ?I don?t care how or when you work it, just give me 40 hours a week?.  I?m going to lose my mind, and quite possibly me temper, if I have to go through the same routine of having to explain myself every freaking time I have a doctor?s appointment.

  • Wow...11:37?  Tell her you'd be more than happy to make up 7 minutes. What a twatwaffle!

  • That's a little extreme.

Your boss needs a glitter punch to her nether regions.

  • Um, yeah. Glitter punch may be necessary.

It may be time to start being ridiculous about it - check in with her when you come in and when you leave, and make sure she sees your face and knows you're working so she has NO excuse to pull this stunt again. Total BS.

Seriously. How infuriating. I would feel SO disrespected. I have never been directly questioned like that for jobs I filled out time sheets for, but when I felt like someone maybe didn't believe me, I took to conveniently sending emails at those times they would question I was working so I could prove it.

  • That is awful!  A glitter punch is definitely called for.

  • What a jerk! Just to be ridiculous back, I'd show up 7 minutes early and make it a point to tell get with a big smile. Then later that day I'd go stand in the bathroom stall for 15 minutes just to spite her.

  • Holy crap. This reminds me of our new HR lady though. One Friday I made us late by 15 minutes - no biggie for me cuz I'm salary but DH is hourly so he has to make that up somewhere. Or just not get paid for 15 minutes, right? Oh no, he had to take some "unpaid personal time" and fill out a whole sheet about it. Seriously?

Ugh, people and their power trips.
