WWWWD?
So, the question of the Christmas party has come up again this year. I've already put out feelers that I'm only donating $20 to the partner's gift this year. No more $40 checks out of me. I explained it was b/c of Libby, which was a convenient excuse for me really.
Anyway, i don't really want to go. It'll be a free nice dinner and open bar (don't get excited, it's a poopy open bar), but I don't really feel part of the "group" here. I'm not really bitter about it anymore and I accept it. Honestly, i would say 95% of the time, I don't mind.
So, go or not go to the office Christmas party?

see, on one hand i'd say just don't go. on the other hand, maybe this would help you actually feel like you're part of the group (which to me isn't a huge deal anyway).
if it were me, i wouldn't go. i hate socializing outside of work with coworkers.

I think I'm hesitant, b/c last time was so awkward for me. I'd just finished having the big argument with the partners and the other paralegal here. Everyone divides into their little cliques at the party. The table I was at was obnoxiously silent while everyone else was laughing. I kept trying to make conversation, but it was work to put it mildy and I finally stopped. DH and I talked to each other all night.
I don't know. I'll figure smething out.
I have that exact same feeling about our office Christmas party. Just add all the lawyers, judges, other local hot shots to the mix and I end up standing in the corner munching on cheese and not talking to a soul.
My plan for this year is to help set up and stay for, at best, an hour then hit the road. If someone asks I just plan on saying that unfortunately I couldnt stay. No reason (so I dont have to lie) just that I couldnt stay.

Did you see the office last night? Not showing up to parties can have disasterous effects, like not getting super awesome coffee mugs with your face on them.

We are getting jack schit for our Christmas party. We had an employee appreciation day back in June (clam bake on the beach) before the state budget cut a$$loads of money from our organization.
This is DH's first year teaching @ the university. He's been told there is a faculty & staff GTG in December @ a fancy restaurant for his dept & there is also a catered banquet/dance that is school-wide. BTW, his school is world renowned for its chef school; su-weet!
