You'll never believe this story~

So the last 2 weeks of my life have been crazy. We bought a new car then it sat in the driveway for about a week because I couldn't leave the house due to contractors being here and dh drives his to work.  So the first time we get to drive it is to go out of town to my parents in Oklahoma. Dh was supposed to get off of work early so we could do an overnight drive since this would be our first 10+  hour drive with Lyra.  Of course dh is all ready to come home when a shooting call for a kid comes out so he has to put his uniform back on and attend to that scene. He finally gets home about midnight. We hop in the car and go.  Now this DH's first time driving the car at all so I am trying to sleep and he's messing with things, etc trying to get used to it which is fine but annoying. So I finally fall asleep and we get pulled over in KS for going 6 over (yes 6, you all remember when I was pulled over for going 6 over). Luckily the cop was nice and just didn't see our intransit tag and once dh identified himself as an officer since we had a gun in the car all was peachy and we were back on the road with no ticket. Of course I was wide awake again and even with garmin I dont' trust my husband to go the right way through topeka so I stayed awake till we were on the toll road.  So the rest of the ride down was fine.

Our entire visit with my family was nice and relaxing, while I planned to get more sleep that just wasn't in the cards for me.  My mom is normally up early and likes to get Lyra up and spend some time with her for about an hour before she is hungry then my mom comes and gets me to feed her.

On Tuesday morning I heard my mom go in and get Lyra and her chitter chatting away as she does every morning, then about 5 minutes later we hear my my crying out "help, help". OMG! DH and I lept out of bed, I think I was still half asleep and couldn't get the door open, finally get it open, race out into the living room, all 3 dogs (rott, boxer and schnauzer) are running around because mom is yelling and we all came racing in.  My mom is laying on the ground with Lyra.  We get the dogs outside then figure out what has happened. My mom tripped with Lyra and fell.  Luckily Lyra was fine, she didn't even cry with the fall or all the commotion but my mom broke both bones in her lower leg. Had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance and just TODAY had surgery (I could write a whole other post about the crappy hospital and care but I am trying to release that, I guess that's what you get in a small town).

We had to come home yesterday (toughest thing to do was to leave her in the hospital). She's such a caretaker of everyone else and it's killing me that I can't be there to help her out. So she came through surgery very well. I think they put a rod in her leg and she will be going home tomorrow.

I just don't know what to do, she was supposed to come up in August to help with the sale and care for Lyra then we were going to ride home with her for a few weeks and fly back in sept. So I have 2 tickets booked from OK to omaha. I don't know how she will be in 7ish weeks and if she would want to come up here just to get out of the house (no she won't be working the sale) or if I need to book another ticket to go down there. Ugh!  I don't think I can do the 10+ hour drive by myself with the baby. I wouldn't even mind going back down here at the end of the month to help out. Just when I think I have it all planned everything is now up in the air. And I have to figure out what I am going to do with Lyra during the sale.  It's just crazy. I feel like its been this weird dream for the last few days as I just keep replaying everything over in my head.

Re: You'll never believe this story~

  • That is a BIZARRE story!  How crazy that she broke her legs!!  Glad Lyra wasn't injured, but man, that's very crazy.  How old is Lyra now?  Is she pretty happy in like a jumperoo?  It will definitely be more work to have her at the sale, but not impossible.  You could also start interviewing babysitters (college-aged with summer off) to watch for a few hours each day so you can work the sale.  At least it's only a week, but yeah, kind of bad timing.  Hope your mom heals soon!
  • Man sounds like a action packed weekend. I hope your mom recovers fast. I will be on Maternity leave at the time if you need help. Just shoot me an email at cmcdonald 624 @ gmail.com and we can set up a time to talk and get to know each other. Looks like my LO #2 will be at least 3 weeks old if not older by the time your sale comes around.
  • Wow!  So sorry to hear about your mom.  You need to come have a drink (or 5) tomorrow night!  I might be available to help with Lyra during your sale.  We can talk more about it.

Oh that sounds so painful! Sad I feel terrible for her. The other stuff will work itself out. I'm sorry you have to deal with so much unknown right now but I bet your mom feels horrible about it. I hope everything goes well in her healing. Keep us updated.
