Back to square one..and MHR!

So we had an estimate for the roof and siding that we sent to our insurance company-we had picked out the siding color and shingle color.

Then we had the AC fiasco last week. We have to do a supplement on that. We're assigned an adjuster for said supplement.

Our roofing company calls me today and asks why the insurance company called them. They had called them because now their estimate is $1700 more than what the insurance company allotted for us. (It was originally $400-the insurance company approved that.) I was not aware of this difference. When the insurance saw the huge difference, they called them and questioned the difference. The roofing company won't give them a reason OR send them an itemized estimate showing where the difference actually lies. The insurance adjuster asked them to meet halfway on the difference and the roofing company WILL NOT budge on their price.

The roofing guy flat out told me,"I talked to your insurance company for 3 hours today and got no where. Frankly, I'm not talking to him again. I won't do it." He then proceeds to tell me that they were planning on doing our roof the next few days. Uh, excuse me. We were never told OR approved this.

Really this is a blessing in disguise because we would have been up a shiit creek without a paddle had the roofing company did the work then the insurance said we're not paying the $1700 difference. I can't even get an explanation for the difference from the roofing guy.

So now-here we are. I called the insurance agent today and talked to him for an hour this evening. He told me to just take a step back and relax for a few days-then get 3 other estimates. Since our roof isn't leaking (thankfully) we have time to feel out our options.

I had absolutely no problem with the roofing company until today. I had never seen so much as one ounce of attitude from the guy until today. Then it was like,"This is how it's going to be."

Talk about stressful. But keep calm and carry on, right? (I think that's the phrase.)

Now onto MHR-

I called him today and told me the above ridiculousness that's going on. After he thanked me numerous times for dealing with it-he took me out to dinner tonight so I could just relax and let someone else do the work. Smile

I was so excited to talk to him today after all this (which transpired AT WORK P.S.). It's amazing to me how I can be so excited to talk to him everyday after 5.5 years. *cue sappy music* hahaha

  • It's SUCH BS.

FYI, Our business partner is a roofer, and he will go higher if he knows that an insurance company is footing the bill. Because, honestly, insurance companies have money. It's still kind of a shitty deal, but he'll go up from 25%-50% more over the actual cost.

I would just call him and say, you know what, insurance is not going to pay more, and I'm not footing the difference. I'll be getting other estimates and I'll contact you if I need you to fix the roof. Period. He'll either lower his price, or you can go with another company.

This is damn near word for word what I told him. Now it's just a matter of getting more estimates. We got two the first go round. The roofer we choose and this company here locally the estimate said this. EXACTLY THIS. "To remove and take off roof will be $5200 at *our address*." Hmm UNBELIEVABLE.

The problem is everyone around here is busier than hell (I work in flooring-we're busy too. But we don't jack up our prices for it. The company we wanted flat told me on the phone that he's not lowering the price because quite frankly, they didn't need our job. They would "love to do the job" but they don't need it enough to lower their prices for what they're worth. Uh..thanks.
