Comfy shoes with capris

I already posted this on the fashion board.  I'm posting it here because I'm sort of in desperate need of advice.....we're leaving for vacation early tomorrow morning.  Stupid me for not thinking about this until the last minute.

I need help finding shoes to wear with capris.  We're going on vacation and we'll be doing 8+ hours of city walking every day so I need something with good support, preferably flat/low heel.  The flip flops I normally wear won't work for that much walking.

Would either of these look okay or are they too bulky for capris?  What else might work?

Thanks so much!

Re: Comfy shoes with capris

  • I like the first ones better than the second.  When I went to NYC in August a couple years ago I picked up a nice pair of Naturalizers.  They were comfy and could be worn sockless so they didn't look as awkward as shoes and socks can sometimes look with capris.

What about a new pair of flip flops with better support? Although, buying new shoes before a lot of walking may mean blisters depending on how sensitive your feet are.

  • I like the first pair better.

When we went to Boston last year I got some Skechers that were really light weight and really comfortable.  They were not too bulky.

If you're near a DSW they often have a large selection of Skechers.

I got some kind of like these:

  • My favorite walking shoe is Sanuk Yoga Mat flip flops.  I could walk in them all day long.  They are not your average flip flops.  I believe you can get them at REI.  I normally get my online but since you don't have the time.....

  • I'm completely fashion inept, but I think either of those would work fine with capris. I personally like the second pair better... partly that's because I'm just partial to more open sandals.  I also have water-shoes from keen that look a lot like those (same color and everything), and I think they're cute and super super comfey... of course, I wore them for canoeing in the BWCA, which is a bit different in terms of usage...

I also love my chacos with capris, but... chacos can get a little funky-stinky with a lot of usage (I just scrub them out with soapy water, and then they're good as new)... but if you don't want to worry about funky shoe smells, you might want to avoid the chaco/teva type shoes.

  • I like the second pair best and was going to suggest Keens before I scrolled down and saw your 2nd picture. My friend has a pair she wears with capris and they look super cute.

Shoot.  That screws my plans up.  I went to DSW and found a pair of low profile New Balance that were pretty good - they were similar to the ones Kiz posted a pic of.  They didn't have my size so we were planning on stopping at a different DSW on our way out of town.  But now maybe I should go to REI instead.  I tried on the Keen sandals last week at REI and they were so stinking comfortable, way more comfortable than any of the shoes I tried on at DSW.  And I do prefer sandals.  I would use them way more than the New Balance.  Oh and then I can check out those yoga mat flip flops.  They sound amazing.  DH is going to be so annoyed.

We were supposed to go last weekend but ended up not going because the SHT website said the trails were wet, wet, wet.  Neither of us felt like dealing with that or a wet, muddy dog in the tent.  I'm hoping we can get up there in a couple weeks.  Have you been lately?

Oh bummer!  But good call with the wet and the dog, that would not have been fun!  Last time we were up was Memorial Day weekend.  We do mostly canoe or car camping in the summer and skip the backpacking.  Minnesota humidity is brutal for it!!!  Heading up to the BWCA this weekend though, super pumped :-)
