AW: Job *squeee*

H and I want to move to Charlottesville, VA when I graduate next spring and sort of have a plan in place for how we are going to accomplish that (his employer has an office in Richmond ~1 hour away, live in the middle, look for new jobs, etc). Well, I started researching firms in the area and found one that I fell in love with. They have an amazing business philosophy, they're small, it's a studio atmosphere and I wouldn't just be a CAD monkey - plus they work a lot in conservation, which is what I want to do. Anyway, I sent the Principal an email last week saying how much I appreciated the work that his firm does and their philosophy and would love to speak with him if he had a minute sometime. He emailed back the next morning at 9 (<12 hours after I emailed him) saying that he would be happy to talk to me but was really busy, so call him at 9 one morning the following week.

Yesterday I called him and we talked for over 45 minutes, about everything. Turns out he did his undergrad where I'm doing my masters and we have a lot in common as designers. As I was hanging up the phone he told me that if I'm ever in Charlottesville to bring in my portfolio and resume because I would be an awesome fit with their office. I told him that Charlottesville was actually where I wanted to live, and he goes "well then you really need to stop in and see me. Plan a trip in the fall and we'll sit down and talk together about how we can make that happen"

I am FLOORED! I never expected anything like that. Jobs are so hard to come by in this economy in my field that I was expecting to take over a year to find one. If this really does materialize I am going to thank my lucky stars every single day. AW
