jewels - walnut st question

i totally forget what exactly you do in the arts and where.  but I though i would throw this out at you to see if you knew anything at all about Walnut St and their tickets.  I am on the site looking at Miss Saigon tix for me and mom and I'll be dammmned if nearly every seat in the house isn't $91.  Really?

How the heck do they get away with that ?  Second level mezz is same price as orchestra level?  Say what?

Also, I have never been in that theater - are there bad seats?

Lastly, if you know none of the answers, that's OK. just thought i would bother you on your staycation!  thx

(interrupting, as i worked there  a million years ago)

re seats: in this weather, i'd avoid sitting in the rear orchestra-sometimes the heat of the theatre gets trapped under the mezzanine.

mezzanine is always good, so is front balcony. avoid sides of orchestra unless you're behind row G or so. otherwise sightlines suck.

if you're feeling adventurous-do they still do rush tickets just before curtain?

  • good tip re seat locations. I was thinking about getting something close-ish, orch level, because they only have two prices :  $81 and $91.  what the heck diff is $10 in the end, right?  But the orch level seats available are either in the back or off to the side in the front.   oh wait - there is second row mezzanine open.

I don't know about the last minute rush tickets.  Maybe I will call them !  thanks Meldot - it is like you are right here :)

  • Hi Rum - sorry, just seeing this now.

Meldot gave great advice.  I wouldn't sit rear mezzanine either.  Rear orchestra is ok, I would go for that.  I am picky with seats so personally I probably wouldn't pay $91 for rear orch, but it depends on how badly I want to see something.

And how they get away with the pricing is most arts orgs are now doing what they call, dynamic or variable pricing like the airlines do. The more seats are sold, the pricing goes up.  The thought is that if the demand is there, people will pay.  And they do.  It's a huge money-maker.  I'm going to assume that if a lot of the orchestra is sold, they've probably increased the price. Walnut St is one of the biggest of it's kind in the country, so I'm sure they have been doing it for a while.

GL and let me know how it is!  It was my first bway show, I'd love to see it again.

and also, since they are about 80% subscribed, there are less single seats to sell.

    Yes

We can switch places if you want! Big Smile

  • doesn't look like we are going to go. I just can't get into $91 per ticket, even if it is a gift.  I have seen the show before, so it is mostly OK to miss it.  Mom didn't seem too passionate either way.
