I have it.

I had a professor wisely say "Education is the best form of birth control." Meaning the more educated people are, the less children they tend to have.
I also don't agree with providing food and aid to poor countries. It takes away the incentive to work (why work when you can stand in line and get all your basic needs met), and takes away from the profits of those who do work (why pay for something you can get for free). But too many people don't think it through and simply think that by throwing cash (or in this case, food) at the problem, that will resolve it.
If there is someone in need that I know -- and know all of the circumstances surrounding the problem, I am happy to help out. But when it comes to other cultures, too many people think that other cultures have similar values and ideals, and don't understand that they are often making the problem worse even though they have good intentions of helping the poor and needy.

Wow. There are no words.
I spent summers '04 and '05 in Honduras building houses. You can not describe being in a third world country until you've been... But the ignorance and lack of compassion in that thread is astounding.
And I will never forget that picture.
Ever.
I know, I had never seen it before today, though it's apparently pretty old. It's a photo that will never leave those who see it.
I believe I read that the photographer committed suicide shortly after that photo was taken.
With that said, if you lurk on Oct 2011 babies board, there is even more sh!t on this topic.
Do you know where it came from?
Sudan, I think.
I found information here
I'd only heard this post mentioned but had not read any of it. Based on the context of people's reactions, I decided not to waste my time reading it because I have no patience for stupid.
But I just looked at that picture and...I truly have no words.
