Remember when I told you all I couldnt make the GTG because the doctor said I should stay close to home? Yeah, Im glad I did!
So, here's a (long) rundown of how it went down:
*My doctor, Doctor A runs his practice with his 2 brothers...he is not in the hospital over the weekend, his other brothers cover..moving on.
The baby was always super active, but over the weekend I had noticed a really significant decline in movement.
Saturday: I went to the hospital to get checked, spent a couple of hours - they sent me home. Brother #1 was taking care of me while calling my doctor to keep him in the loop etc. After much monitoring, they sent me home. I returned some hours later on Saturday with the same complaint: decline in movement. They sent me home with instructions to return the next day (Sunday) for monitoring.
Sunday: Same thing happens. Baby being monitored just fine, I get sent home. Movement declines, I go back. Its the evening, and Doctor A tells his brother (Brother #1) that he wants me to be admitted so that I can be induced. I should expect to deliver on Monday am. Im admitted.
Monday: Pitocin starts, Im starting to contract. Im on it 20 minutes, the chairperson of the department STOPS THE PITOCIN because he doesnt want to induce before 39 weeks. *I was 37 and 4 days. I get sent home after monitoring. Im home and experience 5 hours of no fetal movement. I call Doctor A, and he flips out (cursing at the chairperson and apologizing to me for having to go through such an emotional roller coaster) and instructs me to go to the hospital, and that he's inducing me regardless. Back we go.
Brother #2 induces me at 10:30pm. Im feeling pretty good, but exhausted because I had slept a total of 2 hours the entire weekend (just stressed) - 3.5 hours go by, and I went from 2 to 5 centimeters with some substantial discomfort. So, I request the epidural.
The epidural is administered about 5 minutes after I request it (it was only me and one other woman due to give birth that night). It kicks in, and Im feeling groggy and am thrilled because I get to try to sleep. Brother #2 tells us that we should expect 12 hours or so until the baby since its my first, and they take the longest.
Um, not so much. I get to enjoy the epidural a total of 10 minutes when my water breaks and the epidural's effects are now gone. I tell Brother #2 that "something is wrong, I feel like something just fell..I think I have to push!". He tells me calmly that I only had the epi for 10 minutes, its way too early to push but he'll check me anyway.
In the 10 minutes, I went from 5 to 10 centimeters and the baby's head is right there. I can totally push.
Brother #2 says "No, No..dont push. My brother wants to be with you when you deliver. Hold it!" He runs out of the room to call/wake his brother up. I hear him say "It happened so fast, get your ass here now" and he was laughing. My doctor jumps out of bed and got to me in 20 minutes.
Doctor A gets there, totally looking like he was in a deep sleep and says "There's no way you're doing this without me. We've been together almost 10 months, we're finishing this together!"
I pushed her out in 8 minutes flat. Each contraction was 2 pushes, so she came out in 6 pushes. It was amazing. 4 hours of labor, 8 minutes of pushing.
Id love to post a pic of her, but my husband is a maniac about me posting pics of her on the net (I cant even put it on my FB!!)
But her name is : Avery Emilia. She was 19 inches long, 6.7lbs born on 6/28/10.
And I'm over the moon.
