Wedclean vs. dry cleaner (hangs head in shame)

Yes, ladies.  I just celebrated my fourth anniversary, and I am embarassed to say that I have never cleaned my dress!

I am likely going to take it to a reseller, so I don't need it packed and preserved in a box.  Did anyone get their dress cleaned locally?  I'm wondering whether that is a better option, if I'm going to take it somewhere for consignment.

Thanks!

Re: Wedclean vs. dry cleaner (hangs head in shame)

  • I was going to do Wedclean until I saw the shipping costs (which I think were an additional $30 or something).  I ended up taking it to the drycleaner down the street from me, who cleaned it for $65.  They did a great job, and miraculously managed to get all of the black gunk off of the bottom of it (two years after the fact).  For the sake of full disclosure though, I had a plain satin dress - no beading or lace or anything fancy.

  • Don't worry, I didn't send my dress away to be cleaned and preserved until I had been married for almost 4.5 years! I even put it on again before putting in the box to be shipped to WedClean.

I used WedClean and loved the service - it was super easy and they kept me updated on the process via email. If I were just going to have the dress cleaned, I probably wouldn't have used WedClean but since I wanted it preserved it was the cheapest option from what I saw.

  • I don't have a specific cleaners recommendation, but my mom went with a local organic cleaners in St. Louis to get my dress cleaned/ preserved and it turned out amazingly well.  I think it was cheaper than WedClean and they did a fantastic job.  I would maybe as The Knot board for DC, the St. Louis board was where I got the recommendation for my cleaners.

  • If it makes you feel better I've been married for 6 years and still haven't gotten my wedding dress cleaned.  In fact, I don't actually know where it is.  It's somewhere in my parents house out of state, as that is the region we were married in, but I have no idea where my mom put it.
