I think I'm going to cry. It's entirely my fault, I know. She has a little area with her artsy stuff, and it has a tiny pair of super dull safety type scissors. I've let her have them because she uses them a lot and she's always been so good with them. "Scissors for paper," she says. I'm an idiot.
On top of that idiocy, I mentioned tonight as I played with her hair that we should go get a haircut soon. H and I were talking about taking her in some time, just to get it trimmed up and evened up. Thinking that she'd be opposed to the idea, I thought we'd talk about it a little beforehand to get her prepared. So now I've planted the seed, and she already has the access.
H and I are watching TV. She ran off to hide in the closet. She does this a lot. H went to check on her, said she was hiding in the closet, and came back. A few minutes later, here she comes with her new haircut.
I'll admit it could've been worse. She just cut her bangs, but she cut some of them to the root. Do you have any idea how long it took to get her bangs as long as they were? OMG. We were finally at a point that I could put them in a little pony tail to keep them out of her face and it was easy peasy.
I know it's just hair. I know that. And I know it's not her fault, and that it was my fault. But that doesn't make me feel any better. Worse, actually. So, yeah, learn from my stupidity, moms.
Re: OMG. My child's first self haircut.
Ooops
I'm sure she still looks really adorable - how could she not with a smile like that?

PAIF/SAIF/PGAL welcome
my read shelf:
That is hilarious. Her parents must've had a really hard time not laughing.
Sigh. It's honestly not a terrible job. She could've done much, much worse. But OMG, bangs again. They are such a PITA, and this will be even worse because they've NEVER been as short as they are in some places. She was born with longer hair than that.
I'm sure I'll laugh one day. Not today, though. I called my mom on Skype, but she was no help. I'm pretty sure she sees it as payback for the time my little best friend and I played hairdresser, and I got a big chunk of my hair cut off.
My silly Lily is almost 4.
Aw, I'm sure even with super short bangs, Lily still looks adorable.
I did that once when I was about 5. My mom was trimming my bangs and the phone rang and she completely forgot to take the sissors with her. I wanted to go play, so I decided I'd just finish the job for her. I can remember thinking I was doing a perfect job trimming my bangs in a straight line...until my mom walked back in with a look of horror on her face. I'd pretty much cut a diagonal line across my forhead.
This thread is pointless without photos.
Although I'm sure she is still as cute as ever....

Awww, was she all proud of it? Or did she think she would get in trouble? Don't worry, it will grow back.
To add to the stories, one of my friend cut off on side of her pigtails one time when she was like 4. Her mom was sooo mad.
And one time, I was 15 or 16. I have always had a widows peak and used to hate it. So I had this brilliant idea that I would just cut it off. I literally cut it down to my scalp. My mom was mortified because I wore a ponytail alot. I learned my lesson after that one!
She was all excited. It kinda broke my heart to both see her hair cut off and then have to disappoint her, but it's also not like I can say, "Oh that's okay. Here are your scissors back."
Here's a picture. I know it's not that bad as far as 3-year-olds cutting their own hair goes. It's actually kinda cute when it sets right, but the idea of growing the bangs out -- again -- ugh. All the awkward stages. And note the areas where she cut it to her scalp. I noticed this morning that she cut a few random pieces of the length of her hair, too, but those are better hidden.
My silly Lily is almost 4.
This looks super trendy. That side sweep bang is instyle right now. I'm not brave enough to make the cut, maybe I should come let your daughter do it for me.
She is a cutie!
