Hair Help

I have a girl crush on Emma Watson. I especially am loving her hair right now. I really love short hair and think I look best with shorter hair. I haven't been that short since I was 6 years old, though. How do you think I'd look with a cut like that? Click for more photos

Re: Hair Help

  • i think its cute. my hair is pretty similar (my FB profile pic is a year old but i got it cut just before the shower so that is current). I usually blowdry it to "fluff" it a little - i think we have really similar hair texture, mine is VERY straight and fine - but if i don't it looks a lot like this.My hair has been this length about 18 months and I love it a lot (when i had it just past my shoulders for the wedding was the longest its been since i was 4 though; I've always had it between my chin and shoulders).

I am probably the wrong person to ask though since I secretly want this cut of hers (maybe a bit longer but won't unless I someday get into great shape b/c I fear looking like a, um, sterotypical chubby lesbian with 12 yr old boy hair. sorry, no clearer way to express my fear)

  • Any way you can C&P the picture? Whatever site it's linked to is blocked at my work Sad

Emily - my hair is very straight and fine, too. I think that's why shorter hair looks best on me. I've been doing a chin length inverted bob with a bit of stacking in the back (nothing drastic, I'm too chicken!). I want to try going this short, but I'm nervous. I have 4 cowlicks. 2 in front, which makes bangs look awful, and 2 in back on my crown. I'm afraid they would be harder to hide if my hair were really short. I might need to find a good stylist and she what he/she recommends.

  • Jo, I think it's super cute. Go for it. You have fine hair, so it would work well and be nice and cool for summer.

Beware though, I find that the shorter my hair is the more work it is!! You just can't roll out of bed and throw it in a pony or headband.

That shouldn't be a problem. I haven't been able to do a ponytail for years and headbands HURT Smile

I will have to get some bondi bands or something similar for working out, though.

    Bobby pins work great.

The best thing about hair is that it grows back...worst case scenario you get a cut you don't love and spend a few months letting it grow out. But I agree, find a good stylist and ask what s/he thinks will work. I think photos are good to bring as inspiration, but a good stylist should tell you whether or not it will work with your face/hair type/growth pattern, etc. The cowlicks might be harder to hide with shorter hair, or it might be easier if it's cut right and you use the right products.

  • I'm obviously a fan of short hair, and I think this cut would be super cute on you. My hair is very fine and super straight, but with a good round brush while blowdrying and some hair product, I do my hair once in the morning and it's done for the entire day.

I'll never have long hair again.

  • I also have very slippery fine hair.  I had my hair really long (for me) during wedding time, but chopped it all off again soon after.  I have a long-ish bob type cut, shorter in the back, a little longer in the front.  The newest pics on FB are from this past weekend in Seattle, that's pretty much how my hair has been for a little over a year.

When my hair is long, it gets really flat and stringy, I actually have some body when it's chin-above the shoulder length.

I'd be afraid to go super short with my hair bc I know it would take tons of product to look awesome every day, and I despise hair products other than the little bit of hairspray I use to keep my bangs side swept every day.

  • I have two bondibands and they are AWESOME. I want more but they're a little spendy so I'm trying to wait till the St Louis half expo in October. I only run in them and wear the same one all week, then wash. I also have these Goody ones - I havent had a full pony since 2008, and only intermittently before that (well, after college anyway), and they're good for the money. I also wash them on occassion in my delicates bag. They don't stay put as fabulously as the bondibands though, but I wear them around on the weekend and for lifting and light workouts.

fwiw, i only occassionaly put a little mud in my hair for texture, but blowdrying usually does enough. i dont have a pic of it unblowdried, but suffice to say it is flat and dull, but some goop would transform it close to that pic you posted pretty easily Stick out tongue this is my 4 min dry job today. I'm probably going to get some bobbypins at lunchtime b/c my "bangs" are bugging me today.

clearly i love having short hair (since i'm being an aw, lol). the downside is I would NEVER go to a cheapy stylist to do a cut like this, so I spent $50+ tip every 8-10 (tops) weeks to keep it up.  I do think its pretty versitile too ("fluffed" vs sleeker) and a good option for fine hair.

And like Claire said, hair grows. not a lifetime commitment!

Matt said he "wasn't crazy about it" but that he thought I could pull it off. I think I'm going to try to find a good stylist and go for it.

I agree. Hair grows. Mine grows pretty fast, actually. I love short hair, so I figure it's worth a shot.

  • Oh, and the working out thing, I use Sweaty Bands.  Also a pricey option, but I have never found another headband that actually stays on my weird slippery hair.

I put my hair in a small pony, then the sweaty band holds back the wispy crap, both bangs and hair under the pony that won't hold in the rubberband.

Right now I do the top half of my hair in a small pony for working out. I sweat so much that the bottom half literally drips. I've been considering the bondi bands anyway for the sweat wicking. I think you can get 5 for $25 with a coupon code, so I will probably just bite the bullet and do that.

i tried one of these on at the running store and it seemed too small to get on my head (so, ok, didnt really try it on. did i do something wrong, do them come in sizes or something?
  • DO IT!!!!

I think it would be super cute and I'm a huge fan of changing hair all the time. Hence either cut or color difference on me almost every other time I go. I figure you can always dye it or grow it.

And if you really really hate it you can buy a wig! haha

  • I can't see pics at work, but here's my take (coming from the daughter of a hair stylist):

    GO FOR IT!

Hair grows back. I love trying new haircuts (and I have very fine/straight hair also), and I love short hair. Which makes me look like a hypocrit since my hair is below my shoulders right now! (but it's in a bun or a ponytail every day because I hate it - just no time for a visit to mom's for a haircut).

I've had perms, crazy colors, super short, really long, layers, bangs, etc. You name it, my mom has done it to my hair. It's fun to make changes!

Sorry, been on a conference call with our friendly neighborhood regulatory agency about their visit next month.  Blah.

Anyway, the elastic in the back stretches.  I have both the 1-inch width and 1 1/2 inch width bands and I like both sizes a lot.  The small 5/8-inch is a little bit too small for me, it doesn't hold back enough hair.  But I highly recommend the sweaty band, even for $18 a pop.  My local running store that sponsers my run club gives 15% off anything as a run club member, so I go there for my sweaty band purchases now.

  • Umm.. first, I have to agree with your girl crush. Emma Watson is HOT! I love the pictures from the premier.

I think a cut like that would be great for you! You should go for it! Definitely find a good stylist who can give some suggestions on ways to tweek it for what will work best for your hair.
