AW: New patio

I know it's not Thursday, but our patio wasn't done yet Smile and I still wanted to share.

It's funny what gets a person excited as they get older and become all responsible and stuff, owning a house and whatnot.  I'm so excited that we finally have a patio! lol.

I posted some pics in my fun blog (link in siggy).  Thanks for looking!

Re: AW: New patio

  • It looks great!!!!  It will be so nice to have the outdoor space to hang out!  I cannot wait until we get our deck built!  I'm sure that the patio will look amazing with flowers!

I saw that you were looking for patio furniture.  My husband and I bought a 10 piece patio set (a table, 4 chairs for the table, 2 lounge chairs, 2 ottomans and a side table) for $300 at Meijer a few weeks ago.  It seems like it's pretty good quality!  We're pretty happy with it so far!

  • I love it!

    I'm so jealous.

  • I love it!  I'm surprised no one else did anything like that in all those years the hosue was there.  At least this way you didn't have to destruct something old and crumbly that someone else put in. :)

My parents bought a set from Meijer about 5 years ago (actually I think longer than that) and it has held up really well.  It's one of those one's with the cast iron - looking frames.  They've had no complaints.

  • The patio looks great!

Also -- I love your sheet music wreath a few posts down.  I have a blank wall behind my piano and now I found a project!!

  • Looks great!!  It will be especially lovely with the plants/flowers around the border.  Do you plan to leave a gap at all to create a "pathway" to the grass?

Probably not.  You can't see it any of the pictures, but if you're facing the patio door from the backyard, to the left side of the patio is a step down to a small piece of patio that is flush with the grass.  So it doesn't look like it, but there is a way to get off the patio without hopping over everything lol.  And I probably won't grow anything really tall, maybe just some groundcover type stuff.  I really have no idea yet...I'm not much of a gardener lol.

We used Titan Totalscapes out of Livonia.  They're part of the Titan Topsoil group.

  • I'm glad to hear about the Meijer patio furniture.  It was definitely on my list of places to look at.  Thanks!

Thanks!  It was pretty easy to do and I'm not a very crafty person lol.

  • Looks great!  I also love the sheet music wreath!

we are putting in a stamped concrete patio. Since it's less maitenance than brick patios. I wonder if this has the same issue of moth growing around the bricks or not.

I don't know if I'd say they're less maintenance...all patios/decks have some sort of maintenance.  I just didn't want a solid concrete slab  because we have a lot of tree roots around and I knew it would crack.  It's a lot easier to replace one stone if it's cracked than fix a concrete slab.

They used a polymeric sand in between all the joints instead of regular sand.  After everything is put in place, the patio is misted lightly with water and then the polymeric sand "sets" and turns hard, sort of like caulk.  It's supposed to prevent all the previous problems of weeds and whatnot growing up in between all the joints.  When we originally were going to go with brick pavers, they were also going to use is for that too.
