My u/s is on Monday morning at 8am!
I've got a really bad summer cold right now, but besides that (and the fact that I'm coughing pretty much nonstop), I've been really nauseous and had a nice visit with my toilet this morning. It's all fine, and I'll take it, but the cold is making it worse. I feel like crap and wish that I could take something for the cough/congestion - but nothing is approved in first tri

Thank you. I did finally break down and use my inhaler since I was wheezing. My RE's office couldn't give me a definitive answer on if it was safe or not, but I figured that if I'm not breathing well, then baby isn't breathing well either, so it was better to use it than not.
As for it sinking it yet...it's weird because it doesn't really feel real, but I think after we see the heartbeat on Monday that it will really sink in. I'm actually really thankful for the nausea because I feel like it's a good indication that things are going as they should. But I'm terrified that things will not be okay at the u/s.
I wish that I wasn't so afraid/anxious. I wish I could just be excited. It's hard.

Yes, it is safe to use it. Inhalers are typically on the class B list and the benefits outweigh the risk: if you can't get oxygen, then neither can your baby. Later on in pregnancy, some types of inhalers are actually used to try / help to induce labor.
(I've been on albuterol for 21 years)
As for the congestion, while pregnant your body produces lots of mucus as you will notice. (Ear wax, post nasal drip, congestion, the dreaded "snail trail" etc.). Expect that it won't go away, but perhaps get worse - and if it does go away: BONUS!
In the 3rd tri you may notice getting sick even more as your body suppresses your immune system as to not "reject" the baby as you near labor.
This is what I was going to say too-- that's my motto... it's better to breathe than not breathe, right? I had to go on an additional inhaler a few months ago for a few weeks and am back to normal. I still use my advair daily though. I hope you feel better!
Jules - such good news LOL
Really though, I'm okay with the congestion sticking around. Even if I have to blow my nose every day, that's okay. But breathing exclusively through my mouth isn't fun. And I coughed all night. Poor A had to sleep on the couch. I'm actually tempted to try sleeping in our recliner tonight.
I'm going to start wearing a mask at work in 3rd tri HAHA It'll be winter and all the nasties will be coming in hacking on us at the front desk!
Thank you for reassuring me about the albuterol. I rarely need it - maybe 2-3 times a year - but this is definitely one of those times!

Haha!! Yeah, Matt is having a hard time sleeping at night because I either breathe really loudly through my mouth or I end up snoring. I feel bad, but it's only temporary!
The mask isn't a bad idea! I am sure you get people coming in with all sorts of grossness!
No problem about the albuterol. It was the first thing that I asked both my PCP and my OB and they both said the same thing. I use mine just about every day.
I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so crummy -- but at least you can feel good about being nauseous because you know it's a good sign!
The first 12 weeks for me were the hardest as far as it feeling "real" and not being anxious/worried all the time. I can only imagine it's 100x worse for you, given everythign you've already been through! Hang in there, the time for you to relax and truly enjoy your pregnancy is just around the corner!
Have you tried a sinus rinse, like this: http://www.drugstore.com/neilmed-sinus-rinse-regular-kit/qxp142205?fromsrch=neilmed+sinus+rinse
Also, it's safe to use saline spray, which sometimes helps you breathe better. I did find propping myself up when sick helped a lot. The post-nasal drip made the nausea SO bad for me and I was well out of the first tri. I found bubbly water (like the naturally flavored carbonated polar waters) to help.
Can't wait to hear how it goes on Monday!
