Cleaning service recs?

I am very lightly considering the idea of a cleaning service. I feel like a loser (no judgment on others) for wanting someone else to come to my home and clean for me. My justification is that working M-F, 40+hrs a week, it's hard to find the time to clean the way I'd like to have it cleaned.

What does your cleaning service charge? What do they clean? How long/how often do you use them? Have you ever had any problems? Does it weird anyone else out to have someone in their home when they're not home?

Re: Cleaning service recs?

  • I felt the same way... very reluctant and a little guilty about hiring a housecleaner.  I felt conflicted about spending the money on something I "should" be able to do, and I felt conflicted about the potential classist issues of hiring someone to clean for me.

But for a variety of reasons, I finally came to terms with it, and OH. MY. GOD. It is soooo nice.  I wish I hadn't waited so long!  Huge huge huge stress relief for me to not have to worry cleaning, and not going into a cleaning panic when i hear someone is going to stop by, and not having to spend forever madly cleaning the house before a party or houseguests... , etc. etc. etc.

For me, the only way I could feel comfortable with it (morally) was to hire cleaners who were paid living wages and who used "green" cleaning products.  I pay more for my cleaner than I would hiring through a big company, but it was really important to me. I also feel a lot more comfortable with the idea of having someone in my house while I'm not here, because I feel a person who's running their own cleaning business has more accountability than someone who's working for minimum wage through a big cleaning company.  I have a friend who hires through a larger company, and different cleaners come out each time... I just feel more comfortable knowing the person who is in my house, and having an actual relationship with that person...

If you're interesting in going this route, I can PM you with more details and some recommendations for a few cleaners to consider.  (Where are you located though--that will make a difference on who I might recommend.)

you can email me too! ajung08 at hotmail dot com.

I live in Chaska. I like what you said about trusting someone who has their own cleaning business rather than someone who may be a disgruntled employee Smile

    Thank you!
