dresses (again) *Updated with PIP*

I wore one of my new dresses to work today. I figured, it's an important day, it seems appropriate. Plus it's new and it's always fun to wear new clothes.

Well here's part of the reason I don't like wearing dresses. Everyone acts like it's a BIG DEAL. I got so many comments, like "look at you all dressed up" and "what are YOU doing in a dress" and etc etc.

I've worn skirts to work before, so it's not like this is way out there. And all the other women seem to be able to wear dresses without people commenting about it. What the heck. Why can't you people just leave me alone?

And this is why I feel self conscious putting on a dress and am therefore far less likely to do it.

ETA: Here's a pic. Poor quality, sorry.

  • I'm sure it was just the fact that you looked so fabulous they couldn't help commenting!
  • Once people see you in a dress more than once or twice, they'll get over it.

I wore a dress on a Friday once & you would've thought it was the biggest.deal.ever (& we don't really have "Casual Fridays" either).

  • ITA. Isn't it funny how it's just a compliment, but it's somehow so annoying and actually makes you feel self conscious? This happened to me last week. I was just a bit more dressed up than usual (although I wear plenty of dresses) and it was all this one guy could talk about. I just wanted to change.

    Creepster!

I have a CW who makes a comment on my green scarf every.single.time I wear it. Always.

  • The same thing happened to me when I started wearing makeup to work again and when I started wearing dresses/skirts. Like the others said, your CWs will get over it after a couple times. I'm sure you look fabulous!

  • The only comments that annoy me are when people all me a midget when I wear flats.

    This would irritate me.

Whenever I wear flats (which is hardly ever), I get at least one "I didn't realize you were so short!!" comment Sad

  • I love it! You know, I was probably totally hallucinating this morning, but I could have SWORN I caught a quick shot of you in the background somewhere and thought, 'Was that Leah?! Couldn't have been, she was wearing a dress.' Of course, I may have just been picking that up from the psychic hotline but hey, weird coincidence :D
  • Very cute dress!

ha! who knows, maybe it was me. There were cameras and media everywhere. You literally had to step over them to get anywhere. I made it into this picture, which I posted before I even noticed it: http://twitpic.com/5mzbl9 (far right)

  • I really like that dress.  I think it looks great too.  I understand what you're saying though.  There are clothes I pretty much have stopped wearing because of comments like that.
  • Aw, I like it! You look cute & put together Yes
