Her release date was pushed back to July 17th. They recalculated the number of days she's already served.

I heard a lot of news stories yesterday. I know we are all very mad that she got a slap on the wrist, but the juror who came out yesterday to explain their reasoning actually made a lot of sense. They wanted to convict her, but by law, they just didnt have the evidence. It isn't their fault, but it is so frustrating.

THANK YOU.  Like it or not, the system worked.  You are talking about the death penalty here, and if there's even a shred of doubt, it doesn't need to be exercised.

I'm a bit more confused by the fact that she didn't go down for the neglect charge, but I knew that she wouldn't get charged with first degree murder.

There was a really good article in the Wall Street Journal yesterday that explained everything as well. As much as I would have loved for her to be found guilty, the jury can't decide based on emotion or what they think should happen. They were right, there wasn't anything definite proving Casey did it. The system worked regardless of how we feel about it.

There wasn't anything showing that...her friends who testified all said she was a loving mother, etc. Caylee never had bruises, bumps, or anything showing she was neglected. Even if she had drowned in the pool, that's not neglect. Too much reasonable doubt in this case.

I was speaking more to the fact that she didn't report her daughter missing for 30 days.  Surely that constitutes some sort of gross neglect or irresponsibility or stupidness or something.

Yeah that was definitely stupid on her part. However, to prevent that from happening again, Florida is working on a Caylee's law that will require parents/guardians to report missing children in a "timely manner" and prevent families from profiting on pictures of the child.

  • It makes me so mad when I people say that the jury got it wrong.  I feel as if she did it based on all her lying, but my feeling is not evidence.  There is nothing in the evidence that proves she murdered Caylee or even proves that Caylee was murdered.  Personally, I think the state is at fault for not gathering the proper evidence and building a solid case of what happened.

I agree about the doubt thing. Unfortunately I do think she was somehow involved even if she didn't pull the trigger so to speak. It makes me cringe to know that she's getting off with so little punishment, but it does seem to be all they could do.
