Tri Care standard

Tell me all about it!!!  I really hate the docs on at the base we're at.....I went to them for back problems and their solution was to pump me full of meds instead of actually finding out what the problem is, I ask to see a dermatologist because my eczema is out of control and they denied me because they said there is a 6 month wait list and insisted that it wasn't that bad.....uh ya right it covers about 40% of my body.  The last straw was the OBGYN and her insensitive comments.

I last saw her 2 days ago and she said I'm not getting pregnant cause I need to loose weight and probably have PCOS because I'm so over weight.   Super Angry Ya I'm know I'm not the skinniest person but I have already been loosing weight and she knew this so making comments like that was un called for, and as for PCOS I ovulate and get my period every month so as far as I know that is NOT PCOS.    I'm sick of Military docs and want to pick my own, tell me everything you guys know about Standard.  Any info would be greatly appreciated! Big Smile TY!

Re: Tri Care standard

  • On Tricare you can self refer to specialist (which is nice because on Prime you have to have a referral). So, now you can schedule your own appointment to go see a Dermatologist or an Allergist for your Eczema.

With Standard you pay a % of each visit up to a personal deductible and then a family deductible.

    It's $150 individual and $300 family.

Here is a link outlining the costs of the various plans.

  • From what the ladies on the bump's military board say, Standard's maternity coverage has no copays other than the standard $25-ish per day for hospital stays (and of course your deductible if you haven't met it). That's not so bad. I'm thinking of switching too.

  • I love Standard. I was on Standard back home mainly because the nearest military base was 2 hours away. I also had everything established w/my doctor and didn't want to go through the hassle of trying to find a new one.

When I got out here to CA, I debated switching to Prime but I'm glad I didn't switch. I like being free to choose my own doctor. If you go w/ a doctor in the network your co-pay is less than if you go w/ a doctor outside of the network. But that is totally up to you.

  • Sidenote:  You can still get your period every month when you have PCOS.  When you're overweight, the fatty tissue has excess estrogen.  So, that makes up for the estrogen you're lacking with PCOS.  GL with getting treated.  I went through 3 doctors before I finally found one that would listen to my concerns and put me on a proper course of treatment.

She's charting. I really don't see ovulation for June and FF didnt give you CH. If you've only been charting 3 months you really don't KNOW you ovulate EVERY month.

  • You might consider talking to the patient advocate and explaining your issues with your current doctors. Then, see if they will refer you off post. I had some inconsistent and just plain shiity care here at Hunter and when I complained, they referred to a civilian doctor of my choosing but I retained prime.

Oftentimes they are more than willing to do this if the clinic is pretty packed, which tends to be the case if most of the brigades aren't deployed. But if many of the units are gone, they won't.

However, it can't help to ask. If you stay on prime, you get the benefit of going off post but without having to pony up the copays.

You're absolutely correct.  I'm not worried if I'm ovulating or not because I do think it will take more cycles to determine that but I didn't like the fact that this OBGYN jumped the gun so soon about PCOS.

I have lost 27lbs since May and she acted like I wasn't loosing the weight fast enough.  She also assumes a lot too....I never once mentioned anything about wanting Clomid and yet she kept saying over and over again "I think it's way too early to put you on clomid when you haven't been trying for a year yet".....ya ok I didn't ask about clomid.  The whole reason why I saw her in the first place was because my LP's were short and I wanted her opinion about how I could lengthen them.

I just really didn't like how she assumed I wanted to run straight for the drugs and hinted that I needed to loose weight faster.  I almost broke into tears when I left the appt.

Well enough of my pitty party lol I just basically wanted to find a doctor that will actually listen to my concerns and not assume that I want to be pumped full of drugs.  Thanks everyone for your help! I will definitely be talking to tri care about switching to Standard.

Slow weight loss and acne can be tip-offs.  However, I don't believe that's too slow.  Whatever doctor you see next should do bloodwork.  There can be other things besides PCOS that cause those symptoms.  They can also do an ultrasound to check for cysts, but not everyone with PCOS has cysts.  Bloodwork would give the best answer.  GL with it
