I need to vent and some May 08 vibes...
...I've been putting off sharing this because I feel like sharing it makes it real, and it can't be real. I think I'll tell the long-ish version of the story. DH is about to start his 4th year electrical apprenticeship. At the end of last October, his company ran out of work. They waited until the absolute last minute to lay DH off (laid everyone off before him) but eventually had to. He got a new job right away, but with a significant pay cut. We (DH's boss, DH, me, etc.) were extremely confident they'd get work again by January at the latest so DH and I decided I'd stay off the pill because we thought even if I did get pg (I have PCOS so we were expecting trouble TTC) he'd be well into more work with his old company by the time I had the baby. I got pregnant two weeks later. This entire time DH is being offered a job by a friend/fellow student at another company. Same pay as who he was working for at the time (so less than what he was used to) but he'd drive a company vehicle and have more room for growth. After two months of this guy offering Ian this job, he took him up on it. To say it was not what he/we expected is an understatement. He was treated horribly, never got a raise, and while he was learning a lot in the field it was because he was always by himself and he was supposed to be trained/training to be a foreman. The company itself is just really shady all around, but he was sticking it out because his first company was showing no signs of getting work again (not what we thought would happen at all) and this new place promised to give him 2 weeks paid time off when the baby came and to pay his school tuition which is due in 2 weeks. Loooong story short, a super shady contractor got mad @ DH for unintentionally going above his head (DH asked someone a question regarding something he was installing and apparently he was not supposed to ask him that) and he told DH's boss a bunch of lies about his work. His boss fired him w/o any explanation...They've since started to figure out that that this guy was lying but it's too late. DH hasn't worked since Tuesday. He is following a couple of leads he has but the bottom line is, I'm due in a month, his school tuition is due in 2 weeks, and he doesn't have a job. I'm stressed and scared and sad. We're also extremely relieved to be done w/ this shady company, but I'm scared. I know we'll get through it and he'll be better off in the long run...but this is the worst possible timing. One of our cars needs a lot of work on it and we think Phoebe may be sick so there's $$$ for the vet and I'm just scared and upset. I know he'll find something, it's just a matter of time...I just need to vent and ask for T&Ps.

regarding school - can you take out loans? can he take a semester off? i would try to find a way not to pay it by borrowing the money through financial aid and paying it off when you have the money, rather than when you need it which is now.
can your h get UE?
on the plus side, maybe your h will be out of work when the baby is born. it would be priceless if you all could spend that time together. most fathers never get that opportunity.

maryland, we have the money in savings to pay for the tuition but im afraid we'll need our savings for while he's out of work so we'll probably look into school loans. his school isn't done by semester, it is done by year and we were hoping to move back to ak next year when he is done so he/we really don't want to put it off.
he does have a few leads, the one promising one just seems to be taking longer than expected...i hope he gets something asap...
oh no hun! Tell him to get to the unemployment office right away while he's looking for another job.
Maybe have him call his old company and see if things are looking up?
