As long as it's well maintained, let her do it. I know my kids would love to see it, they love watching our flowers and plants grow.
I really don't agree with a misdemeanor charge for her, they should fine her with a ticket or something, an actual crime is going too far.
I was not expecting to see a whole front yard full of garden beds.
While it is maintained it looks really tacky to me that that her entire front yard is 4 garden beds and wood chips. I know I'd be annoyed if she were my neighbor if I had to drive by that every day. You can still be an example to your neighbors by doing some cute picket fence enclosed type raised beds on either SIDE of your front yard and not bring down the curb appeal of the neighborhood.
Also, someone might want to give her a crash course in gardening if she's going to launch herself into being a spokesperson for the organic front yard gardening movement in Oak Park- 4 baby jalepeno plants aren't going to feed her large family.

I think rules are rules, whether they are stupid or not, and she knew she was breaking the rules.
It is also a huge pet peeve of mine for someone to break the rules and then turn it into some bleeding heart agenda - "but the children love it". That's not why you put that garden in your front yard and now that you are in trouble for it that is your excuse to get on the news and have people feel sorry for you. Way to teach them a lesson about the law and how it works.
