cheapest site for flights?

What do you use to find cheap flights? DH wants us to come out to visit towards the end of the month from about the 26th to the 30th, or maybe the 27th to 31st. He thought it was cheaper to leave on a tues/wed and come back sat/sun. Any suggestions?

Holly

Re: cheapest site for flights?

  • I think they are all pretty decent  - but here is the ultimate trick. When you go visit orbitz or something, they put a cookie on your computer, and track what you searched, and how much you were quoted - same goes for other websites like that (there was a whole news show about this) - anyways, they say that when you search, to clear your computer of cookies/temp internet ffiles before you visit the site each time, to get a fair quote. They said that they the sites will generally give you a quote of lets say $200 - the next few times you visit, it will be $200. Then suddenly it will be $220 (so you will think eff! I shouldve bought it at $200!!) Then, the next time you visit a day later, they will quote you $195 - and you will buy it because you are thankful and excited that it dropped back down, and you dont wnat to take the chance of it going back up again.

    Sneaky, right?

    Play the game sister :)

  • I try to only fly Southwest, and their flights are only available on their site.  I like that you can make changes without having to pay a fee on top of any changes in flight prices.  They generally fly anywhere we're planning to go, too.  You'll be able to find cheaper tickets if you leave on an off peak travel day- such as Tues, Wednesday, or Saturday.
  • Another trick to look at is going to one of the discount sites and get their prices and then go directly to the carriers site. I have gotten better deals directly from certain carriers. Also call them and see if they have any over the phone deals.
