I need help for a genius mouse

There is a mouse in my laundry room that is capable of tripping any kind of trap I put in there.  He gets the food but doesn't get caught.  I even lost my compassion and put out those sticky pads that I hate and think are cruel.  I found them both under the washer and dryer with no mouse attached.  I have a zapper that I keep in the garage that has caught mice before.  I live close to a creek and the little varmits come into the houses around here.  I can usually get them, but don't like to use poison because I have six pets and I am afraid they will find the dead mice and get exposed to the poison.

Anyone have any ideas?  I am about to get him into the military since he seems to escape all dangers.

  • Teach your cats to hunt. Just kidding. I only have luck with the old school wood traps. I put a tiny smear of peanut butter on to be the"glue" and then stick a chocolate chip to it (for some reason my mice only like chocolate). Mine don't seem to get out of that, even the one who ate through a plastic trap, laughed at poison and pulled himself off a sticky trap.

  • Try one of these traps. We were being outsmarted by a mouse for several weeks and tried so many different things, different bait on the glue traps, etc. and the mouse always escaped. Put this trap out and caught the mouse that very same night!
  • We had a family of roof rats in our attic. Still gives me the heebie jeebies to think about! Anyway, our very friendly, long-winded exterminator loved to talk about his work... He was talking rats, but I wonder if this would work for a mouse? He put bacon in the trap and put a shoebox over the trap. Shoebox made the smell inside the box irresistable and gave rat less room to manuever and he got the rat. Probably need something besides bacon for a mouse, but I thought his shoebox idea was clever.

  • I've used the orthomax enclosed traps with great results. I also have a friend who uses those safety plastic traps, but he used a hot glue gun to glue a sunflower seed to the trap. That way you don't have to re-bait and the mouse has to sit there and chew the seed, using enough pressure to activate the trap.

    HTH!

This Einstein has outsmarted this one also.  He even gets into the zapper and gets the food.  It obviously does something to him because there will be little tufts of fur/hair around the trap, but no mouse.  He is smarter than I am.
