What's your favorite local beach? Either accessible by public transportation or a short drive.
Re: Poll: Favorite beach
I'm a beach hater. I hate sand in my cracks and crevices. I hate baking like a turkey.
Growing up, and still, my grandmother had a bungalow in the Rockaways, in Breezy Point on Jamaica Bay. I had to spend a lot of time in the sand. And because I always had beach access we never really went to any of the other local beaches.
I remember that my great aunt had a house in Long Beach and that we would go to the beach there occasionally and it was pretty nice, but that is like 25/30 years ago.

I like Jones Beach, and I also like Gateway Park in Staten Island. Quiet, clean..no crazy dramatic guidos that you find on the shore..good times. LOLOL
But with that, I also enjoy Lavalette (spelling?) on the Jersey shore.
Long Beach! Neptune Ave entrance, right at the start of the boardwalk :-)
You pay per person on Long Beach, which keeps the crowds smaller. As opposed to Jones beach where you can pack 30 people in a minivan and pay the same price - if you go to the wrong gate at Jones, you'll feel like you just stepped into an MTV Spring Break show. It can get crazy over there. I like my beaches quiet, I want to hear the waves not your boombox!
