VA Loans

I was wondering how many people have used to VA loan to buy a home? Was the process easy for you?

Re: VA Loans

  • We used a VA loan and it wasn't a difficult process for us at all.

  • It was easier than buying a car. I had some problems with our USAA loan processor, but everything else was easy peasy.

  • Super easy. I bought a house on my own without a VA loan before DH and I were married, and that was worse.
  • Thanks ladies! I am super worried because I have terrible credit, DH's is good, but we have 2 brand new cars, and a loan...plus I don't have a job, just my VA income.

  • Super easy. But we both work (although we bought a house we can afford on a single income) and have good credit. Just a lot of paperwork though!

  • The houses we are looking at would cost us just about what his BAH is a month, its just a matter of getting the bank to see that.

  • So far with USAA it has been super easy. We are buying a short sale. So the seller's bank is dragging as$ on getting their part done so we can go to close.

We opted to just put DH's name on the loan since I'm not working and I have student loans. We both have good credit, but it is just easier for it to be DH. He needs the credit more than I do.

  • We used VA it was easy.  USAA wasn't too bad though like Ojo we had a couple issues with our loan off   Depending on which bank you use they take into account his BAH I know USAA did for us.  We bought a house based on one income even though I knew i would be trying to get a job (and have gotten a job).  I also have student loans and he has a car loan.  Both are names are on the house.
  • Thanks ladies! I appreciate it :)

  • Can I ask why you're trying to buy a home with bad credit? Why don't you work on bringing that up so you can get a good interest rate?

Also, we didn't go through USAA because we found a better deal through another bank at 4.2%. USAA was 4.76% and is still going up.

  • My credit isn't great, but its been improved a lot. I was a stupid teenager. Even with my not so hot credit, we haven't gotten terrible interest rates. It's worth looking into, even if we end up not buying.
