Ear piercing

My 6 year old is dying to get her ears pierced.  I'm looking for the best place in Omaha to get them done.  I've heard some good and bad about places like Claires.  Does anyone have any other suggestions about where to get her ears done?

Thanks so much!

  • I would go to an actual jewelry store.

  • Check with your Pedi's office.  I know there was one in our office that did it, but she moved last year.

I'd actually go to a tattoo/piercing place. When I've been in those places everything has been super clean and nice. I got my second holes in a tattoo shop. Apparently using "the gun" can cause more tissue harm than a needle at a tattoo place would. It's supposed to heal faster and nicer with a needle rather than a gun. I didn't actually research that, but it made sense to me and seemed to be the case for me.

  • I'd check and see if you can find someone at a Pedi's office too.  The tatoo info is true but the gun is a lot easier to use on little kids bc both ears can be done at once and for some reason its less scary for most than the needle method.  I know my 7 year old would not have had the needle method done when she got her ears pierced when she was 5.  I had hers done at Sweet N Sassy, thats where everyone said to go, but its closed now.  I had a bad experience as a kid getting mine done at JC Penneys.  They got horribly infected and I had to let the holes close and get them redone somewhere else.  Good luck!

  • I took my step daughter to Claire's, and they did fine, but I would agree that it's hit or miss. They have teenagers working in there. No offense to them, but I don't want a 16 year old shooting earrings in anyone's ears, unless it's a Barbie doll. :)

  • Thanks for all the tips.  We ended up going to the Family Fun Cutz on 144th and Center.  They had two people do the ears at the same time which was really nice.  They were very sweet to my daughter and seemed to really know what they were doing.

Can you give me some more info on this? Alissa really, really, really wants her ears pierced, and I am thinking we might let her do it for her 7th bday. How much was it, if you don't mind me asking?

  • It was $30 plus tax.  I called to ask some questions and they made an appointment time for me to make sure they had two people available.  When we went in, my daughter picked the style of earring that she wanted and a movie she wanted to watch.  They were very thorough with getting the marker spot in the right place before they did it.  The whole thing took 5-10 minutes from start to finish.
