Just married and a question?
I just married my sailor! I was wondering what info is needed to get a military ID? I'll be getting one (without him with me) in my homestate while I pack to move my things across the country to him.
Re: Just married and a question?
Congrats!!
You will need your Social Security Card (if you already have the one with your name changed, you will need to take your old one as well)
Marriage Certificate
Gov issued photo ID (current DL or equivalent)
Special POA
You may or may not need your birth certificate. We took mine in but I can't remember if they asked for it or not.
Where are you getting it done at without him? If it's on a base at all you probably won't be able to even get on without him there. But if it's an ungated reserve center you should be fine. Like PP said you will probably need a special P.O.A. for that, so I would call ahead to find out what you need to bring if you don't have him there. You may need to bring a photocopy of his ID as well.
When we did my ID I had my marriage license, driver's license and my social security card. My ID was the first thing we did in my married name, so my license and SS card were both in my maiden name and it wasn't a problem at all.
This. That's all I did I think. I had a friend with an ID take me on base to get it.

This may be a silly question but I have no idea what a DD 1172 form is...can someone please explain it to me? And if I have that then I shouldn't need anything else?
A DD1172 is here: http://www.belvoir.army.mil/CacCards/docs/dd1172.pdf
It's an enrollment form for the ID cards.
Okay thanks! That helps a lot.
You are assuming that she is changing her name, which may not be the case...
