Vacation Help

DH and I have been tossing ideas back and forth about our next big vacation. We were originally going with Greece but with everything that's going on there now, we don't feel comfortable booking anything. That brought us to our next idea...a Northern Europe Cruise. We're pretty set on this and are probably going to book it sometime soon. It'll be an 11-day cruise out of Copenhagen.
My question is, though, have any of you ever been to any of these cities? If so, can you give any good recs? The cruise site has some of the excursions and things to see but I like getting other tips too. Here are the cities on the itinerary:

In/Out of Copenhagen, Denmark

Oslo, Norway

Aarhus, Denmark

Berlin, Germany

Tallinn, Estonia

St. Petersburg, Russia (overnight)

Helsinki, Finland

Stockholm, Sweden

*I'd appreciate any tips, recs, etc! Thanks!!

Re: Vacation Help

  • I loved the Hermitage museum in St. Petersburg (Winter Palace-where Anastasia used to live). :)  It's HUGE and would take you all day just to walk through every room, but you could check it out for a few hours before going to see other things! :)

  • That sounds like an awesome list of places to visit.  How long do you get in each city?  I'd be worried that I wouldn't have enough time to see everything I wanted to see.  Do you get tours of the cities as part of the cruises, or just explore on your own?

I've only been to Berlin of the places listed there and it was great.  Lots of WW2 history.

Most of the places we'd have at least 8 hours. Each of the cities has excursions and tours you can go on. There is an overnight in St. Petersburg which would be awesome. We're not concerned about having too little time in each stop as we did Geneva, Switzerland in less than 8 hours. It's definitely going to be a busy vacation but it's the easiest and cheapest for us to see the parts of Scandinavia we want to see.

We'll most likely get back to Germany for a longer vacation at some point to see Germany and Austria.

Lots to plan and think about but the cruise line we're booking with takes care of almost everything.
