Hi all! I'm overly excited to join this board as I navigate my way through learning to sew. I just got a Brother CS6000-i sewing machine, and have found it really easy to use, but I have absolutely no experience at all. I completely botched my first attempt at using a pattern and actually making something (very sad looking pajama pants), so I need a good book to learn the basics.
I am leaning towards The Sewing Book: An Encyclopedic Resource of Step-by-Step Techniques. It got good reviews on Amazon and looks pretty comprehensive, but thought I'd see if anyone has some recommendations based on experience.
Since I'm a total beginner, I'd love something that takes me through technique, patterns, and gives some tips.
Thanks for any help, and I'm sure you'll be seeing more of me on here with questions... and hopefully someday to AW my sewing successes ![]()

I didn't have books when I started out...I had my mom. While books are great, like pp suggested, taking a beginners class would probably help you out more than the book itself.
Let us know if you need any help and feel free to AW away!
You may want to change the link in your siggy. Its against nest policy and frowned upon on the board.

Thanks so much for the input - I didn't realize JoAnn had classes (told you I was new to this) - there's one right near me, so I'll definitely check one out. Exciting!
And thanks for the heads up on the sig - now removed (although you're still stuck with looking at my cute pups).
