Can you recommend a hair salon in Canton area
that's not super expensive, yet has good hair dressers that will do a good job and guide you to do the right thing with your hair cuts?
I'm dying to get my hair cut and get a new style, but I don't know what I really want so I want someone that will be good to help me decide.
*Doesn't have to be in Canton, but somewhere nearby would be good.

Several of us go to the Douglas J Aveda Institute in Ann Arbor. It's a school, but everything is checked and fixed by an instructor. I've loved my cuts and it's only $16, no tips allowed. The website is

Seriously LOVE Indigo Salon and Day Spa. Love the personal service, and the environment is awesome.

Now sure what you consider reasonable pricing, but in my opinion, living in the Ann Arbor/Canton area for over 10 years you really get what you pay for. Not that other places aren't good, but I will tell you that I have tried OVER 8 popular places in the area and have never found anything I liked until Indigo. The website should list the prices if you're interested.
I see Laura Foster for hair (who seems young at first but her expertise is FANTASTIC) and Emily Laba every month or two for massage. Emily is fabulous too - very holistic.
The ONLY con I will say is that it can be kind of hard to get a last minute appointment if you work 40-60 hours per week. Not a total surprise, since they are well known for good work. I schedule my hair and massage appointments at least 1 month ahead of time.

I think I may try that place out next. I had found a good place in Plymouth, but the hours are really limited and make it really inconvenient for me.

I'm making a note of that! I'm going to a salon in Brighton this week because I purchased Living Social deal a while ago, but I'll book at Redhead Salon next.
Dumb question - do you tip her still, as the salon owner? I've heard you're not supposed to tip the owner, but I would feel funny not tipping.
