vibes, T&P, whatever you've got

One of DH's fraternity brothers recently went into the hospital with congestive heart failure. He is in need of a transplant and his family can't afford the care he needs.

This man is a police officer for the city we all went to college in. He is 29 years old, married and a father of two small children (two little boys, 6 and 4 years old).

Right now we don't have an exact reason as to what caused the heart failure, but DH's fraternity has partnered with the local police department to raise money to help their brother pay for the care he needs. They are having two days where restaurants in Columbus will be donating portions of their profits to the Officer Relief Fund that has been set up for him.

Please send some t&p, vibes, or whatever good thoughts you can his way. He is at a hospital here in Atlanta aiting for a donor and can use all the help he can get.

TIA!

  • Sending vibes, dust, T&Ps, and everything else!

    Keep us updated!

We have a friend who had a similar circumstance-we did several fundraisers for him. If you want to know more, just PM me. Smile

  • How awful! Sending T&P to him and his family. Please keep us posted.

Does the police dept not offer insurance? Or is it out of the scope of the insurance provided? I always thought those things were covered. One of the major problems in America - the failing health care system.

  • From what I understand, it's out of the range of what his insurance covers. Also, insurance doesn't cover things like cost of living while he is out of work. FMLA only keeps your job open, it doesn't require that you get paid during that time. Insurance also doesn't cover travel costs or anything either.

I agree, the healthcare problem is huge in our country and unfortunately, it takes situations like this for many to understand just how awful it is.

I will definitely keep all of you updated when I know more!

  • Lots of T&Ps headed his way...

Our community has recently been doing big big fundraisers for a kid that broke his back out on the dunes. Restaurant sale portions have been a HUGE one, but most of the local banks also did a "Jeans for Trevor" day where the employees could pay $5+ to his medical treatment fund get to wear jeans to work one Friday. That might be worth checking in to to see if any of the branches local to his area would be willing to do something like that.

    Vibez!

We also did this at my old work every month or so.  And during the month of October, we'd pay $5 every friday to wear jeans and football team (or other sports teams) shirts to work and would have potlucks for lunch.  Maybe Steve could get his office to go in for something like that.  Or car washes!  There are lots of ways to help a little, but they all add up!  I hope everyone is successful in their efforts!

  • Oh wow!  That is super sad!

Lots of thoughts and prayers and vibes for him and his family.

Its good that he has the support of the fraternity and the police department, a lot of people don't even have that.
