I noticed that you all were saying that you don't need a phone line...how are you getting the info to the computer? We have ours hooked to the phone.. the only phone in the entire house so it's currently running up the side of the house from the kitchen to the game room (we rent so we won't install another phone jack). DH said there is a cat5 line where the computer is, but he didn't think he could use that. Is that what all of you are using?

Re: Non- uverse Att
I have ATT dsl. The modem that hooks into the phone jack is a wireless router also. So you just connect to the wireless network and put in the password and you're online. Mine connects automatically when I turn it on.
On a side note, I don't have a phone line for it...it just plugs into the jack that was already here.
That's correct.
DSL runs over the same lines, just a different "frequency" so to speak. (On the digital part of the line, rather than the analog that the phones run over)
It is my understanding that U Verse is not DSL though-it is over fiber optic lines. We have a cable that runs from our attic and plugs into the router. There are no phone lines or jacks involved.
That is correct. They ran a fiber optic line through our attic. Then they gave us a new switch plate that has two connections. (One for the land line and one for the fiber optic cable to plug in the router.)
Right, she was asking about DSL though.
hehe
OK. I don't remember why Dh said we could have U-verse. We had actually tried the whole wireless when we moved in, but for some reason it wasn't working. Dh now thinks it was the thingy for it (I'm so technically, I know) that was the issue....Dungle..is that right? Sorry, anyway It's ok with the cord, just kinda ghetto. O well, we'll hopefully be able to do the wireless thing when we move.
Thanks Ladies!
