Re: culinary arts

  • What part of the state are you in? In the OKC area, I know Francis Tuttle offers cooking classes. I think they also have a culinary arts program.

  • all over the place actually. for the last 2 years i was in okmulgee. they had a culinary arts program there but i just moved south of Lawton. H is looking for a job in the okc area.
  • I don't know that not all culinary programs have the same focus, so make sure (with your plan) that you find one that offers a specialization/concentration in pastry. Definitely make sure you take a good number of business courses, too. Something like 90% of new food businesses fail within the first year, and the more prepared you are with your business plan, the better shot you'll have. Good luck!
  • I'm aware of the program at Francis Tuttle, and there's also Platt College.  I've taken several culinary classes at Francis Tuttle and I really like them, but I don't have much of a frame of reference.  I know they are also in the process of a construction project to upgrade one of their buildings that houses some of their kitchens and I hear it will be amazing when it's finished which hopefully won't be too much longer.  I'd ask around and get some opinions from various students and teachers if you can.
  • One of my friends went to Platt College for her's. She now has a catering business and her and her husband just bought a B&B.
