Welcome Ian and birth story

We welcomed Ian Michael into the world at 2:49am on 7/7/11.  He weighed in at 8lbs3oz and was 20" long.  He's pretty perfect and we are so in love with him.

Here's a quick pic of Elsie and Ian:

Birth story-  We went to my 38w dr appt where I was 60% effaced and at a 3 almost 4cm dilated.  Didn't think we'd be seeing the dr and meeting our little boy in less than 12 hours.

I started having period like contractions later in the evening, I thought they were just BH and picked up the house, watched the news, etc.  Then they started to get worse in pain and I kept having to go pee after a contraction (weird, huh?).  All of a sudden it felt like Ian kicked me hard and whoosh, part of my water broke.

We got the bags packed, called the hospital, Elsie to family and made our way to the hospital all in record time- we arrived a little after midnight.  Find out my water hadn't broken all the way, but I was at 5-6cm and would be having a baby.  I had to walk the halls for about 20 minutes to get the baby down into the birth canal and was really surprised that I was making my way through the contractions with a little help from dh.

We got back to the room and decided that even though the pain wasn't bad that an epidural would be best.  After the epideral I went from 6cm to 10cm and fully effaced in less than 20 minutes.  Yikes!  The dr was called and within 40minutes, dr breaking my water (which sounded like a bucket of water was thrown on him, I apologized and he said that he was wearing rubber pants and not to worry) and 4-5 pushes later we welcomed Ian into the world.

He's doing great!  We are trying breastfeeding out and so far so good, but I do have questions.  Lots of them.  That's a whole nother post though.  He's such a cuddle bug and big sis Elsie is so proud- her first comment was "he's so cute!".

My little family is perfect.
