I posted about this on FB yesterday but I'm trying to find a place to buy chicken that isn't whole foods. I just can not pay $6 per pound. Does anyone know of a good farmers market that sells boneless, skinless chicken breasts for less than that?

chicken is the staple food in our house so 5-6 is just not doable. I didn't see this organic fed chicken when I was there. Although the WF in Jenkintown is tiny.

Yeah the breasts at Genuardis are insanely large but The Dude loves him some left overs so I usually cook two when we have them, we eat maybe 1 for dinner and then he has the other one for lunches.

Free range is more of a marketing term and not a standardized regulatory term (like organic is). While the chickens are not contained in cages, there are no regulations as to how long the animal is outside. It could be all day (which is best) or it could be 5 minutes and the rest of the day, they are inside in a dark, overcrowded chicken house.

Looks like they have Barefoot Meadows (a chicken seller), but the farmer doesn't have a website.
We have a farmer--Forks Farm--that comes to our market and sells pastured, grass-fed, whole chickens at a price of $3.69/lb. The average bird is between 4-7 lbs. If you want them cut up, you pay $1.25 more per bird. They deliver to several markets nearby, but there's not one near you. The closest would be P'ville or the Fairmount markets.
Thanks! thats not a bad price for a whole bird. Still not a bad price even if you want them to cut it up.
And for some reason I do not remember seeing a chicken seller last time we were at the G-side market. I just remember steak and sausage. I clearly need to take a closer look.

Lancaster Farm Fresh sells whole chickens through their Four Season proglram for $3.49 and they also range between 4 and 7 lbs. I also know that they usually have a stand at the Glenside Farmer's Market so maybe you could ask them?

Every Saturday Lansdowne has a local farmers market.
There is a vendor that sells organic food.
